ART: Tonight a group of artists take what one would normally put in the paper shredder, and look at it in a whole new light. The Dotted Line "presents work that assumes the form of official documents ubiquitous to everyday life. The participating artists seek to imbue these commonplace documents with new meaning and to consider the implications of those moments when we are asked to sign along a dotted line." Open through December 21st.
7 to 9pm // Rotunda Gallery [33 Clinton St, Brooklyn Heights]
MOVIE: Catch a free screening of The Haunted Samuri tonight. The Yasuo Furuhata film was released this year and follows the story of "a lowly but academically diligent warrior named Bessho Hikoshiro finds himself unable to move up in the world due to the stifling caste system of the Bakumatsu era."
7pm // ImaginAsian [239 E 59th St] // Free, RSVP here
READING: Howard Jacobson and Jonathan Safran Foer are at Barnes & Noble tonight. Jacobson is described as "UK’s answer to Philip Roth," and of course we all know the local literati Safran Foer by now. Get your glasses and soak up the smarty-pants dialogue.
7:30pm // Barnes & Noble, Lincoln Center // Free
THEATER: Tanya Khordoc and Barry Weil (pictured) construct intricately-designed pieces of puppet art for the Evolve Company, which previously produced the world premiere of Vaclav Havel's Motormorphosis. Their new multimedia performance, Secrets History Remembers, promises “a seven-foot-tall Victorian doll whose body opens up to reveal an entire cast of characters living inside her -- singing cereal boxes, dancing pill bottles and giant cigarette packs that blast off into outer space. This doll believes in a world where using the right shampoo could win you the love of your life...but is it really that simple?” Opens tonight, ends Sunday. – John Del Signore
8pm // The Brick Theater [575 Metropolitan Ave] // Tickets cost $10
MUSIC: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Studio B may be sold out, but our interviewee and Broken Social Scener Kevin Drew's show isn't. Get your tickets here!
