Last Night's Action: Missing Carter

  • Hornets 84, Nets 82: As much as the Nets appreciate the start to the season Antoine Wright has had, they probably don't want him taking their final shot at the buzzer. But Wright did just that after starting for Vince Carter -- out with a sprained ankle -- and the result wasn't pretty. Carter's injury will have him out the always mysterious "indefinitely," and the Nets will have to find offense elsewhere. Richard Jefferson (32 points) filled up the stat sheet, as did Jason Kidd. Unfortunately for the Nets, the latter let Hornets point guard Chris Paul drop 27 of his own.

  • Devils 3, Penguins 2: Patrick Elias had a game-winning goal and an assist -- not on the game-winner, that would have been amazing -- as the Devils recovered after blowing a 2-0 lead. Travis Zajac and Zach Parise also lit the lamp.

  • Flyers 3, Islanders 2: The other team from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania fared much better. In fact, it still hasn't lost at home this season. This game had it shares of ugly goals -- if only Rick DiPietro could control his rebounds -- but they all count just the same. The Isles continue their Keystone State tour on Thursday in Pittsburgh.
