Last Night's Action: The Perfect Cure For A Losing Streak

2006_11_sknickslogo.jpg

  • Miami 75 Knicks 72: April 13th was the last time the Miami Heat won a game. From that date they lost their final two regular season games, got swept out of the playoffs, lost every exhibition game they played this preseason and opened the 2007-08 campaign 0-5. All it took to wipe out nearly seven months of losing was a game with the Knicks.

Sure, New York didn’t have Zach Randolph, but they didn’t need him Sunday. David Lee had 14 points and 14 rebounds in his place and the Knicks had five-point lead with 2:30 to play. But, a couple of rebounds got away and it was down to a three-point lead. Then, Mardy Collins couldn’t make a free throw and after a Lee turnover and a Heat basket, the lead was down to one. Then Stephon Marbury threw the ball away and Miami converted again on a Jason Williams jumper. The Heat added two more points and their 8-0 run to close the game gave them their first win in almost seven months and dropped the Knicks to 2-3.

  • Dallas 31 Giants 20: The Cowboys seized control of the NFC East with the win. More on the game later today on Gothamist.

"Sure, New York didn’t have Zach Randolph, but they didn’t need him Sunday."

What? Of course they needed him. They're a 30-something win team without him, as shown last year, and a far better squad with him. Lee's 14 and 14 would be an off game for Randolph. Compare Randolph's averages and his replacement last night, Malik Rose, who had 0 and 0 in nearly 15 minutes on the floor. You don't think Randolph's 20 and 12 would have helped close that 3 point gap a bit??? C'mon!

    HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!!!

The Citizen Watch "Unstoppable" commercial featuring Eli Manning (yes, E-L-I Manning!) ran on television here in Austin, Texas. They played it after the "unstoppable" one was sacked twice.

The Cowboys have a great quarterback in Tony Romo; did Citizen think that an endorsement by a lesser player on an opposing team was going to sell watches in Texas?

Eli then committed several "delay of game" penalties. Maybe Eli should get a Timex.
