Suspect Sketch in Malakov Killing

malakovsketch.jpgCops have a suspect in the shooting of orthodontist dad Daniel Malakov and released a sketch of his playground shooter. Malakov was killed by a gunman who shot him at point blank range with a pistol; the shooting left a handmade silencer fashioned from a bleach bottle wrapped in duct tape.

The killing is believed to be related to a bitter custody dispute between Malakov and his ex-wife Mazoltuv Borukhova. Because the murder took place while Malakov was dropping off their four-year-old daughter to Borukhova, their child witnessed her father's murder on a Queens playground. The Post reported that "after interviews with witnesses, cops said the stocky gunman stands about 5-foot-8, sports salt-and-pepper hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket and black pants." Additionally, Malakov's brother said that Borukhova's mother threatened her ex-son-in-law's life after he gained custody of her granddaughter, saying, "You will all pay for this."

Borokhuva has been in Queens Family Court, attempting to regain custody of her daughter, who is now in a foster home. Borukhova testified that she previously met with a political consultant about planning a protest in front of the White House with her daughter regarding her custody rights. The consultant she met with advised her to abandon the effort, as "nobody would care."

So the police are looking for Alfred Hitchcock?

i guarantee Daniel Malakov's ex wife will be indicted soon enough.

Good luck finding him. After the shooting he got on the next plane back to Uzbekistan. Hard to prove conspiracy without the shooter.

the mother-in-law is apparently a bit unhinged herself...she could of hired this character

He appears Russian in profile but might be Bulgarian. He looks like your average subway rider from Brighton Beach.

That sketch looks like Patrick Moeberg in 40 years. It's the Cyrano Killer!

Wow Snoopy! You must really know your Eastern European facial features. Bulgarian, really?!

since when you are so knowlegable in ex-USSR phenotypes?

It was the wife's parents, maybe the mother, who set this up. I'm sure the Law and Order writers are already working feverishly to adapt this to TV.

Ummmm... nuh-uh. The L & O writers are out on strike. Remember?? "Lay down your pencils and walk the line." They're working feverishly ONLY insofar as doing whatever they have to do to keep their families fed and with a roof overhead.

For the record, I considered countering the police sketch with a Hitchcock profile, but the story is so sad and I figured someone would jump all over me for being an insensitive a-hole. The thought was there, however.

@ JenChungsBra
Law and Order is for bored chumps who think dumb shows like that reflect real life.Perhaps you agree.
This true life story is f*cking tragic, especially for the kid.

The suspect resembles more people in Rego Park than it doesn't.

I grew up in Rego Park (I went to PS 175) and was in the area last week. The crime vicinity is saturated with English-language tip hotline posters, which struck me as locally insensitive--the role of an anonymous informant probably means something very different to ex-USSR and only people under 60 are likely to understand the sign. Russian language 'Justice for Malenkov'-themed signs might have been more effective.

I think the first place the story will affect what's on TV is the 'dining out' feature, as it's possible that some of the media types roaming Regostan are just being introduced to authentic Uzbek food. Which correspondent will be the first to eat lamb testicle kebab on camera?
