Pat Robertson Endorses Giuliani on Anti-Terror Cred

2007_11_prrg.jpgEarlier today, the Reverend Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president, showing that the former mayor was able to win over an influential Christian conservative leader. Robertson explained,"To me, the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists.... We need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead."

And he acknowledged Rudy's NYC history, "Rudy Giuliani took a city that was in decline and considered ungovernable and reduced its violent crime, revitalized its core, dramatically lowered its taxes, cut through a welter of bureaucratic regulations, and did so in the spirit of bipartisanship which is so urgently needed in Washington today."

The NY Times reports that endorsement may help Giuliani "reassure Republicans who are wary of his support for abortion rights and gay rights." Robertson also said that while he did not question Giuliani about his stance on abortion, the evangelist was confident Giuliani would appoint judges "who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia." We can sense countless people shuddering at that statement! You can watch video of Robertson's endorsement here.

But today did not hold all good news for Giuliani: His pal and former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik expects to be indicted soon for charges related to accepting thousands in home renovations from a contractor who wanted a city license. Giuliani has been sticking up for Kerik, told the AP, "There were mistakes made with Bernie Kerik. But what's the ultimate result for the people of New York City? The ultimate result for the people of New York City was a 74 percent reduction in shootings, a 60 percent reduction in crime, a correction program that went from being one of the worst in the country to one that was on '60 Minutes' as one of the best in the country, 90 percent reduction of violence in the jails."

Venal, endorsed by Evil, shuns not Pecuniary K.

When will the press stop allowing Giuliani (or any candidate) to spew utter lies without fact-checking his statements. Talking Points Memo ran the crime stats, and Rudy's numbers are amazingly far off the mark, for example, a generous look at the numbers would say that crime dropped 8.5% during Kerik's glorious 1.5 years as police comish.

Giuliani's overstatements are ridiculous. I'm glad other people noticed the gross over-exaggeration of Kerik's record as police commissioner.

PAT ROBERTSON: Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

JERRY FALWELL: The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, yes.

JERRY FALWELL: And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen'.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system.

The picture of those guys and the story about them reminded me of a line from the movie Patton. At one point, Patton stated that he would attack in both directions if he saw Germans on one side and Russians on the other even though we were allied with Russia.

I'm really amazed that Rudy is still the Republican front runner! I did not think that would be the case at the beginning of this year.

This is totally awesome. I so hope this causes disarray in the Republican party...which it will.

Sigh, neo-conservatism stinks (and this coming from a Republican, a formerly paleo now turned libertarian Republican, but one nonetheless...)
