A Taste of New York 2007

2007_11_tasteofny.jpg

Once again Taste of New York lived up to its name, with a roster of restaurants serving everything from ‘cue to cevape and some well-crafted cocktails to boot. Gothamist was honored to attend this culinary blowout thrown by New York to benefit City Harvest.

One of the evening’s tastiest offerings was Insieme’s tortelli di zucca, or pumpkin filled pasta. We’d love to think that this judgment was based solely on the dish’s fall theme, but these wheaten pillows would be just as good in the dead of winter. The fluke from Michael Psilakis' Anthos was also quite good. What's not to like about tiny medallions of succulent fish topped with black olives, bacon and thyme. Zak Pelaccio's Borough Food and Drink served up cevape, tiny beef sausages dressed with rich cheese and roasted pepper relish.

As mentioned some of the city's best mixologists were on hand. We particularly enjoyed a gingery cocktail served up by Pegu Club's Audrey Saunders and also a traditional Manhattan as served by Dave Wondrich. Thankfully there was plenty of protein to go with all the cocktails. We saw more than a few folks happily gnawing on Hill Country's beef riblets. Like every bit of meat Robbie Richter turns out they were quite good, but what really turned our head was Craftsteak's smoked sirloin with black-truffle braised fingerling potatoes.
