Extra, Extra

  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pedestrian struck at White Plains Rd. and 219th St. in the Bronx, an animal incident on Rochelle Pl. on Staten Island, and a hate crime at Columbia University in Manhattan.
  • A tour of Jam Master Jay's studio, where the rap impressario was gunned down five years ago.
  • A brief update on the unforgettable case where a man beat the bejeezus out of a grunting and yelping spin class member at an Upper East Side Equinox.
  • Gabe Pressman feels that former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani is confused on the issue of "aggressive questioning," aka torture.
  • The Port Authority wants to raise tolls and fares for all Hudson River bridge and tunnel crossings. For instance, the toll on the George Washington Bridge would be raised at least $2.
  • The Battery Park City Authority donates a lot of money to charities.
  • A law firm is saying the former Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik still owes them $200,000 in legal bills.
  • We suggest ordering your over-priced drinks neat at the Bowery Hotel, because the establishment charges extra for the frozen blocks of water known as ice cubes.
  • Prepare for belt-tightening all around as Wall St. bonuses have shrunk a few percent. The average master of the universe will be taking home a paltry $136K in extra pay in '07, so don't forget to spare a brother a dime.

Q: Why is it $8 to go from New Jersey to New York?
A: Because it's worth it.

A brief update on the unforgettable case where a man beat the bejeezus out of a grunting and yelping spin class member at an Upper East Side Equinox.

Fortunately for both of them, the New York State Penal Code does not make being a douche bag a crime.

The fight looked like a, "win win" situation.

Shouldn't Jersey be offering rebates for people that return to that state?

I suggest NYers set up a charity fund to bail out the Wall Streeters this year. 10% is a serious chunk to them, and their boats don't fuel themselves you know.

I mean, how can any decent Wall Streeter gonna live on a paltry 136K bonus per year? Think of their rent and bimmers?
