Fall Shows Up - Five Weeks Late

A widespread pool of chilly air descended upon the area yesterday following nearly 1.5 inches of rain on Saturday. This morning's low of 38 in Central Park was the coldest it has been in the city in more than six months. Elsewhere, Northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and Southern Connecticut all saw frost this morning. Good-bye fresh, local tomatoes until next spring!

There won't be much warming today as we're still on the cool eastern side of the high pressure system. This afternoon's high will be 53-54. The axis of high pressure moves eastward tonight. Tomorrow should be sunny and about ten degrees warmer than today. Wednesday will be a couple degrees warmer still –highs will approach 67. Those last two warm days of the month should make this the warmest October on record.

A dry cold front is expected Halloween night. No rain is expected and the weather should be fine for parading and trick-or-treating. Cooler air behind the front probably won't get here until Friday. Even then we should see seasonable temperatures.
