Last Night's Action: No Wins Here

  • Ottawa 4 New Jersey 1: It’s been 25 years since the original Colorado Rockies moved to New Jersey and Wayne Gretzky called them a “Mickey Mouse organization”. That team struggled to establish an identity in an area with a historic franchise and, at the time, a franchise that was the best in the NHL, but they managed a 3-3 tie in their first game in their new building.

The current Devils are one of the best teams in the NHL over the past 12 seasons, but that meant nothing as they opened up their new building with a loss. The Senators blew open a 1-1 game after two with three goals in the third and the Devils fell to 3-6-1 on the season. Luckily, they have a lot of home games coming up at “The Rock”.

  • Toronto 4 Rangers 1: Sooner or later all of these shots will find the net. Saturday night the Rangers had 33 shots, but only scored once. Henrik Lundqvist wasn’t on his game and 23 shots led to 4 goals for the Maple Leafs as New York could not get a wining streak going yet again.
  • Carolina 8 Islanders 3: The Islanders completed the trifecta of losses for the locals by getting humiliated by Carolina. The Hurricanes built a 6-1 lead before the game was half over and cruised home with the win. Rod Brind’Amour had a hat-trick for Carolina.
  • Red Bulls 0 New England 0: The Red Bulls couldn’t break through in their playoff match and the two teams will play again next Saturday in Foxboro. The winner will head to the Eastern Conference Finals.
