Extra, Extra

- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pediatric arrest on 5th Ave. near 117th St. in Manhattan, a person fatally struck by a train at 39th Ave. and 111th St. in Queens, and a submerged barge at the south end of the train tressel for the A line in Queens.
- Mayor Bloomberg doesn't just take the subway to work; he likes the Subway sandwich chain. "I love Subway sandwiches. I think they're a great deal, good for the money and taste great."
- amNew York pits Stephen Colbert versus John Stewart and wonders if the student has surpassed the master in the realm of comedy news programs.
- This map confirms that a greater percentage of Midwesterners are fatter than New Yorkers. Before we self-congratulate, however, check out the time line feature of the map that shows we're all much porkier than we were 20 years ago.
- Wolfgang the dachshund, who was viciously attacked by a much larger dog earlier this week at Prospect Park's Dog Beach, survived his injuries. He won't be visiting the park anymore, but we're glad to hear he pulled through.
- Four people were shot early Saturday morning when someone opened fire in front of a Staten Island apartment building. All the victims are expected to survive.
- Tired of sticking little flag labels into your cheeses to help guests identify what they're about to put on a cracker? Now you can label them with a Martha Stewart Collection dry-erase cheese board.
- Time Inc. is introducing a new service called Maghound that's kind of like Netflix for magazines. A monthly fee gets you subscriptions to three magazines with the ability to swap them as one sees fit.

A dry-erase cheese board. Damn why didn't I come up with a ground breaking important discovery like that? I hope she files for a patent on it. That woman is just unstopable. What next pre-sliced Italian bread? Christmas trees made out of credit cards?
Subway sandwiches suck. They're relatively expensive (as opposed to other sandwiches one can get around the city) and they flat out blow.
That amazing picture reminds me of walking home after having a few to many lemonades.
Subway has bad overpriced food.
As for the Midwest, my experience in Wisconsin reveals the residents eat a lot of dairy and fried foods, sometimes combining the two. Mmm... fried cheese curds. But I digress. Basically everyone has to drive everywhere (they may have a bus or two and their idea of a car service is Larry from down by the Interstate and his strech limo) and residents were forced to get license plates for their bicycles. I always had a culture shock when I had to go out there.
Subway actually has good food. I like the Tuna and Turkey subs. Rather have Burger King and other fast food junk? go right ahead.
what exactly is a pediatric arrest?
Sadly, probably a pediatric cardiac arrest.
I'll give it to you that Subway is better than Burger King or McDonalds (don't eat at either since I am a vegetarian), but they still have bad overpriced food.
