Pencil This In

200710innocents.jpgFILM: Ease in to Halloween with classic horror flick The Innocents, based on Henry James' novella The Turn Of The Screw. Evil and innocence, the strange and the everday, will mingle as you...enjoy complimentary vodka an tapas!

6pm // Mantra Lounge [986 2nd Ave] // Free, RSVP here

EVENT: Neurologist Oliver Sacks explores "the complexities of human response to music and its powerful ability to move us physically and emotionally" tonight as he shares experiences of patients, musicians and composers. Saks has written a number of books, including Awakenings, and will be on hand to sign whatever you may have after the lecture. We wonder if he can explain why everyone loves that song Umbrella.

7pm // American Museum of Natural History LeFrak Theater [Central Park West at 79th St] // $15

THEATER: To research the new play Milk ‘n’ Honey, director Ellen Beckerman “went Dumpster diving with freegans and foraging in Central Park with ‘Wildman’ Steve Brill, eating weeds,” according to an article in Time Out NY. The result is a large-scale multimedia docudrama that uses video, dance, and interweaving storylines to examine the effects of food and appetite in the 21st century. Each show is followed by the “After Show Café”, where there will be events each night such as Fare Trade food tastings, cooking demonstrations and guest speakers. (Check the schedule here.) – John Del Signore

7:30pm // 3-Legged Dog Art and Technology Center [80 Greenwich St @ Rector St] // Tickets cost $20.

MUSIC: Now that you've had ample time to rest up after CMJ, it's time to hit some shows. There are a few good ones around town tonight. First up Kyp Malone (of TV on the Radio), Sic Alps and Skeletons & The Girl Faced Boys are at DIY venue du jour Death By Audio.

8pm // Death By Audio [49 South 2nd St, Williamsburg] // TBA

In Manhattan we highly recommend you check out one of the best bands we saw during CMJ (even though it was a rather early set, 2:30pm at our own Gothamist House)...barely awake we made ourselves a promise to go see this band again during a darker hour. Tonight The Muggabears take the Mercury Lounge stage with Film School, Land of Talk and Small Sins. Go early, stay late, rock on.

Listen: Married to the Moon.mp3 - The Muggabears

8pm // Mercury Lounge [217 E Houston St] // $12
