Post-Apocalyptic Union Square Coming Soon

2007_10_legend4.jpg

A lot of the filming for the upcoming Will Smith zombie movie I Am Legend took place in Washington Square Park and at the Brooklyn Bridge, but Union Square gets the star treatment on the I Am Legend website. Well, star treatment if you consider a rather bombed-out looking New York to be glamorous.

The website offers a pseudo-360-degree perspective of the popular gathering place. Yes, that's Whole Foods above and here are some more screengrabs:

I Am Legend comes out on December 14. Are you excited?

bad cgi.

Its alot more fun to not watch the new trailer as it is to pause it on each frame to see all the cool visuals of the city. The movie looks like it will suck, but I still want to go...

Anyone who has had to endure shopping at the Union Square Whole Foods will be excited to see it bombed-out. For some reason this location attracts more people who don't know what they're shopping for, have never seen a grocery store, walk as slowly as if they are from the mid-west and have no sense that yes they are blocking the whole aisle.

Excited about a remake of a remake?? The first one being the Vincent Price movie "The Last Man on Earth" made in '64. Then came the Charlton Heston version, "The Omega Man" made in '71. If this doesn't say that Hollywood is totally devoid of any original ideas I don't know what does.

@nycblonde
Apparently you haven't been to either Chinatown or Trader Joe. Same story there. Just as frustrating and it just confirms my sense that people in nyc are just too self involved to be aware of other people, selfish, stupid, etc.

Awful>/i> CGI. Come the zombie apocalypse, most of those buildings would probably be burnt down to the ground before long, but whatevs.

the cgi is definitely bad...that minivan is hilarious.

gotta say that I love the netting and scaffolding on that one building...what, the producers couldn't get the city to allow them to take it down for the filming?

and I love even more the cgi netting on the building on the left. it sure does look real!

I get the feeling the web designer for the site works in Union Square.

Thats not the final CGI, you dipsticks, those are storyboard style frames. HINT: they havent shot it yet. The post production (CGI, particle effects, lighting etc.) will be done after they shoot it. That's why it's called POST production. DUH! Morons.

NYC does not require to much work in creating an apocaliptic wasteland. Look arround: trash and concrete! neature is such a luxury here. Why would turist come here? buildings! yeah that's pretty...

Funny that actualy nature will grow in those apocaliptic lnadscapes, so it would be way better than actiual conditions.

wait what? the movie comes out in a little over a month. DUH! HINT: it's been shot.

There's a better trailer on youtube:

This movie is actually an adaptation of the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson that was written about 10 years ago. It should be noted that this isn't intended as a zombie story - it's a vampire story (a minor but significant difference) though we will see how well the movie makers follow Matheson's original story. While "last man on earth" stories are commonplace, this isn't a remake of either the Omega Man or The Last Man on Earth - both movies lacked a realistic response that is found in Matheson's story (though it seems lost in the trailers I've seen). While I don't anticipate this to a be a good movie by any means, at least get your facts straight before commenting.

Wrong Diabolix,

I am Legend was published in the 50's 91954 i believe) and th other's mentioned, the Vincent price film and Omega Man were adaptations. So yes this is a remake of a remake.

I have heard from everyone that this remake of a remake is horrible. The trailer is the most entertaining aspect of it. That and the sets maybe. But it was shot in downtown Los Angeles, most of it anyway.
