BREAKING: Another Astroland Season for Coney Island

Wow: The Daily News reports that Astroland will "open for one last season" thanks to a deal between Astroland owner, the Albert family, and Thor Equities.

Thor bought the Astroland property for $30 million in 2006, as part of its billion-dollar redevelopment plants, and it was suggested earlier this summer that Thor would let Astroland open for the 2008 season. However, last month had reports about extreme differences between what Thor wanted for rent ($3 million) and what the Alberts would be willing to pay ($170,000).

Carol Albert said, "Astroland is very pleased that its 300 employees will continue to have jobs, and we want to thank our many supporters and fans who worked so hard to keep Astroland open."

See you on March 18, when it opens again!

Rats. I went right at the end so I could say I went right before it closed. Now, I gotta go back.

Not that I'm complaining... is there a better NYC day than Nathans, The Cyclone, beer and Totonno's?

When Astroland eventually closes what will happen to the Wonder Wheel? Is it landmarked? It would be a shame to see it go.

5) Wonder Wheel, Cyclone, Parachute and Child's Restaurant all landmarked, not going anywhere. March 18th Astroland opening date is wrong, that's a Tuesday. Gothamist editors should do a little research, not just copy Daily News errors...

The Wonder Wheel also isn't part of Astroland. It's a separate eponymously-named park.

man. just as i was getting stoked for fall, this has made me miss summer already.

Good news about the Wonder Wheel. The photo confused me.
