Police in Suffolk County released surveillance footage of an attempted robbery at a convenience store off the Montauk Highway in Brookhaven that showed a petite woman defending her store. Store employee Hafize Sahin, all of 4'5" and 90 pounds, swung a 3-foot-long ax at the would-be robber.
The incident took place around 8PM when a mask-wearing man demanded the store's money. Sahin pretended to open the register but really took the ax from under the counter when the man went to look outside the door. Sahin said, "I thought the gun is not real. I wasn't going to open the drawer. I said to myself, 'I'm not going to give him money.' I couldn't give him the money because I thought it was the first time he was doing it." She added, "I was yelling at him and telling him 'Get out of here!' I didn't want to hit him, I just wanted him to get out."
Another employee said, "I've seen her roughhouse with a friend. I knew she was tough." But Suffolk Fifth Precinct Detective Let. Edward Reilly warned that self-defense isn't always the way you want to react in these situations: "The recommendation of the police department is, if someone is robbing you, you give them what they want."

"The recommendation of the police department is, if someone is robbing you, you give them what they want."
NO!! Good for her!!! Screw this "give in give up" attitude.
People who rob others are cowards. They can be defeated.
it would've been better if that ax made contact with the robber.
I iz defendin my store, axin ur robberz
Wow. Bravo!
She's a tough cookie. I'm glad she was right about it being a fake gun; otherwise, this story would have a very different ending.
Agreed, Virgil. You plays your cards and takes your chances. Glad this one worked out.
You go, girl!
lawlz @ fishermb
That was pretty hardcore. Looked like she was wielding the Halo 3 hammer lolz
That chic is awesome! This may also drive up the sale of axes.
Ax vs. Toy Gun = Ax wins.
Ax vs. Real Gun = Nobody wins.
Game theory suggests what she did was stupid. If she guesses right, she saves, what?, $500 at most? If she guesses wrong, $5000 in funeral fees. Oh, and she would be dead.
>>Store employee Hafize Sahin, all of 4'5" and 90 pounds...
The Post says that she is 4'5", but the Daily News lists her height as 5'4". I think that she looks about 5'4" in the pictures on the Post's website.
isn't 4'5" like...midget?
Um, the term is "dwarf". LPs/people with dwarfism typically don't like to be called a midget.
Dwarfism is commonly considered to be someone 4'10'' and below, so technically if this lady were 4'5'' she would be a dwarf...and she's clearly not, from the video.
Gotta love journalists and their lack of basic proof-reading (or perhaps it's a lack of common sense?).
Rock, paper... axe, motherf--ker.
I guess the savage "axed" her to hand over all of her money. Get it? hahahaha
Two possible headlines:
"Brave Midget Fights off Gun-Wielding Robber"
or
"Family Mourns Tragic Death of Devoted Mother"
Is it really worth risking the second headline to have the first? Nah.
She's use to beheading people in her country, good job!
no, she's just defending her territory!!!! good for her!
You go girl!! One for the little guys!!
4'5'' 90 pounds?!, She's OBESE.
