200710chelseahotel.jpgREADING: Legends of the Chelsea Hotel has hit the bookshelves and is telling all from the inside of the legendary building. You may recall John Vanderslice touting the book in this video we filmed of him on top of the hotel this summer. Tonight come hear author Ed Hamilton read from his book. The walls are talking!

7pm // Barnes & Noble [21st St and 6th Ave] // Free

EVENT: Blog band du jour Yeasayer is having a non-show tonight at Glasslands. They promise a celebration "with dancing, comedy, sing-alongs, and beverages," but add, "There will be no Yeasayer performance this evening." Though we'd put money on an "impromptu" performance.

9pm // Glasslands [289 Kent Ave, Williamsburg] // TBA

MUSIC: If you'd like to see a band actually play music tonight...then head over to Park Slope for Tunng and Charles Atlas, who will both be taking the Union Hall stage. Tickets are still on sale.

THEATER: Tonight and tomorrow night mark the auspicious beginning of The Chapters of Ronald Pelican, an intriguing performance piece in two parts. This week’s show takes place downtown in a normal theater and introduces the tale of half-man, half-pelican Ronald Pelican, who was an esteemed Navy Admiral in the 19th century. “With the songs of Frank Sinatra, the God Damned Pelican will make audiences laugh so hard they’ll cry and cry as he charms them with stories from his life as a hollow boned handicap!” Got that? Not sure we do, but we’re curious. The second installment takes place next month in the storefront window of Chashama, where, for four days, Pelican will dance, sing, play guessing games, give psychic readings, display “violent humility” and more – all culminating in a 24-hour performance marathon in the window. – John Del Signore

8pm // Gene Frankel Theater [24 Bond Street] // Tickets at the door for $5
