Two Die in Boating Accident Off Coney Island
A motorboat crashed into a tugboat pulling a barge last night and two motorboat passengers died after the vessel overturned. The incident occurred in the Ambrose Channel, near the Verrazano Bridge.
According to the Daily News, a 24-foot motorboat hit the tow line between the tugboat and barge. Apparently the tugboat's captain had warned the motorboat a number of times, but the motorboat continued on. The barge ended up hitting the motorboat and three people were tossed into the water.
The Coast Guard and NYPD responded to the scene. Another fishing party boat, the Captain Dave, helped rescue one man while the NYPD rescued another. However, two men, ages 51 and 33, were found in the water and declared dead.

it was a 24 foot fishing boat that hit the line and was run over by the barge.
a commercial party fishing boat would know better.
i doubt the operator of the 24 foot boat even had a 6 pack license. all commercial boat operator's know about the hazards with tog boat tow lines and barges. too bad this boat operator didnt.
sucks
Stay far away whenever tugboats and barges are near each other. One of the first rules of kayaking, at least. Too bad the captain of the vessel didn't know that.
