Joyriding Teens Crash Stolen Car in Rockaways

2007_10_stolencar.jpgOne teen is dead and two others suffered injuries after a Honda they were riding in crashed into a column for the A train's elevated tracks at Rockaway and Beach 101st yesterday morning. And what's more, the car was stolen the night before.

Once the car hit the column, it burst into flames. Residents who saw the crash brought pails and hoses to help put the fire out and even crowbars to pry open the car. They managed to pull out a 15-year-old in the backseat, whose legs were on fire, while emergency workers extracted the driver and front passenger.

Witnesses told WABC the car was going around 65MPH and one told the Post that the car "ran the light" and then "lost control and they jumped the curb." The 16-year-old driver is in stable condition with burns and 15-year-old passenger in the back of the car has a broken leg, but 17-year-old Dashawn Davis, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died from his injuries.

The car was reported stolen in Greenpoint on Tuesday night. Davis was a student at Beach Channel High School, close to the accident scene (the backseat passenger also attends Beach Channel). The driver is a student at Boys & Girls High School in Brooklyn.

Hate to say it, but karma is a bitch.

Not that this is going to teach anyone else not to steal . . .

luckily they didn't get killed or kill anyone, I hope they look at those burns next time they decide to steal a car.

On another note, as a Honda Fit owner, it's good to know might survive a 65mph collision with a concrete pillar

monsterzro: someone did get killed, its written above.

"17-year-old Dashawn Davis, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died from his injuries."

one less moron in this world, too bad the other two didn't bite it as well.

Let's here it for the area residents, who managed to put out the fire and extract the kid from the back seat. Because they helped save a couple of car thieves, it's doubtful they'll be called heroes, but I'm sure impressed.

Reality Czech,
Apprently you were a perfect teenager? I lived in the burbs in Ohio and knew two kids who had stolen a car (usually a relatives) and crashed it. Have some sympathy. I feel as though whenever anything like this happens in the city, people automatically lose their hearts and expect every kid that lives here to have a sound sense of judgement. Just as karma played a role in their accident, it will in your heartless comments.

Nice to hear, a few less animals out there. But I feel bad for the car owner, probably a hardworking person with a family that depends on this vehicle to get their children to school .etc

I saw this on the news last night and it's really unbelievable how the media tries to make these scumbags the "victim". WTF??? These retards STOLE a car and drove it head on into a concrete pillar. IDIOTS!!! But the media kept babblering about how critically injured these "kids" are and how one died. Who the fuck gives a shit about these asshole kids?! They could have murdered innocent pedestrians and it's a miracle no one else was hurt! And what about the real victim here, the owner of the stolen car!?!

Who the fuck gives a shit what happens to those "kids"? I sure the fuck don't!

Driving around in stolen cars at 17, mugging your grandmother at 21.

moocowtoo, thanks for the correction, yeah it's tragic, but it would have been more tragic if they killed a pedestratian.
