Chumley's has been closed for so long by this point that it would be difficult for it to reopen even if the building were repaired right away.
As a resident of D.C., I have been to Chumleys once and was smitten from the moment I walked in, I even tried this past August when I returned to NY to visit but found it was closed. Please residents of NYC get Chumleys OPEN again. It is a valuable asset to the city.
I belatedly discovered the joys of Chumley's about two weeks before it closed. I dont know how much asbestos can possibly be holding this up, but I'll be happy to come over and help out.
Chunley's R.I.P.
You too Chumley's
I don't think it would have any problem attracting it's patrons back after being closed for months and months. Chumley's has a client base that spans the world, and folks will continue to flock there. It's loss would be just another terrible loss for the West Village that has already lost so many wonderful spots. Sure hope this makes it through the crisis.
