MUSIC: If you see a lot of guitar-toting ladies and gents around the Puck Building right now, that's because CMJ has officially begun. This means there is a ton of music happening (including at our own Gothamist House starting tomorrow). Tonight we suggest hitting up Brooklyn Vegan's show at Bowery Ballroom: Voxtrot, The Rosebuds, Dean & Britta...and so many more.

6pm // Bowery Ballroom [6 Delancey St] // $16, or free with badge

THEATER: A.R. Gurney’s The Dining Room was nominated for a Pulitzer and ran for 18 months off-Broadway in ’82; it’s been deliciously reheated for a 25th Anniversary production that ends this week. Set in a dining room that represents multiple American dining rooms over the course of a century, the play probes the familial relations of New England WASPs – Gurney’s favorite milieu. Six actors play over 50 roles during the course of the play, which Judith Jarosz loved: “I have not been this satisfied as an audience member for some time.” – John Del Signore

7pm // The Clurman Theatre @ Theatre Row [410 W 42nd St] // Ticket prices vary

READING: Nick Hornby will be reading from his upcoming book, Slam, tonight. We're told this new one is "about teenagers and written with a slightly younger readership in mind but have no doubt it's vintage Hornby." Friend of Hornby and singer/songwriter Josh Rouse will also be on hand for a little performance.

7pm // Barnes & Noble [33 E 17th St] // Free

200710bknites.jpgThe Brooklynites will also be reading tonight at a different Barnes and Noble. Author Anthony LaSala and photographer Seth Kushner will give a visual and verbal presentation of their book, The Brooklynites.

7:30pm // Barnes & Noble [267 7th Ave] // Free

TRIVIA: We're more about the rock trivia, but tonight bring your inner-jock to Union Square for an evening of sports questions, answers and beer. Dallas Hudgens (author of Drive like Hell and Season of Gene) is a guest tonight, and there's more info here.

King's Head Tavern [222 E 14th St] // Free

EVENT: Digital Freedom and Free Culture @ NYU are hosting a screening of Good Copy Bad Copy. The documentary focuses in on "the current state of copyright and culture, and features prominent copyright players such as Girl Talk, Lawrence Lessig, Renaldo Lemos, and Dan Glickman." Post-film there's a Q&A with the co-director, Henrik Moltke and Fritz Attaway, the MPAA's Executive VP and Special Policy Advisor.

9pm // NYU Courant Institute [251 Mercer St, Room 109] // Free
