Jets Go to 1-5 and on Track to Nowhere

2007_10_jetseagles.jpgIf a change in clothes doesn't help the Jets, what will? Despite looking snazzy in their New York Titans throwbacks, the Jets looked anything but sharp on the field in a 16-9 loss to the Eagles on Sunday. Some creative playcalling, including a reverse, got the Jets deep inside Eagles territory as the fourth quarter wound down, but Chad Pennington couldn't get the ball to Laveranues Coles on fourth-and-one fade.

The whispers are growing louder for a quarterback change to be made. At this point, why not try Kellen Clemens? The Jets are 1-5 -- only the Dolphins and Rams are 0-6, though there are several 1-4 teams -- and are going nowhere. Peter King said on NBC on Sunday night that Pennington has one more week. Why? Pennington has been in the league since 2000 and a starter since 2002. Eric Mangini has been in the AFC East -- with the Patriots or the Jets -- for that entire span of time. Does he not know what Pennington can provide yet? Everyone loves Pennington's accuracy and his decision-making. But he's thrown six interceptions over the last two games. If Pennington doesn't control the ball, he provides almost nothing to Jets offense, whose only bright spot Sunday was Thomas Jones' 130-yard day. The Times' William C. Rhoden makes a compelling case -- even if he doesn't go too far out on a limb. Mangini and the Jets have supported Pennington, but the festering is growing.

At least Pennington is getting some love from the guy to his left, his comforting hand placed ever so tenderly on Chad's ribcage.

And who says football isn't homo-erotic?
