On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events
October 11: Restaurant Reviewing in New York City
In light of Michelin's release this week, this panel discussion at Borders in the Time Warner Center, which happens to be the home of three-star Per Se, two-star Masa and one-star Cafe Gray, focuses on the reviewing scene in one of the best food cities in the world. Panelists include Jean-Luc Naret, director of the Michelin Guide; Jay Cheshes, former restaurant critic at Gourmet; and food-blogger/restaurant critic Danyelle Freeman. 7pm, Borders, Time Warner Center, 10 Columbus Circle (at 59th Street), 2nd Floor.
October 16: Wine. Dine. Donate. at Del Posto
Epicurious is hosting a benefit dinner for America's Second Harvest at Del Posto as part of their Wine. Dine. Donate. event series. Lidia Bastianich has created a mouth-watering fall menu and Joe Bastianich has picked out wines to pair with each course. 6:30, $250, tickets available online. October 16: Cheeses for Autumn Wines
The Joy of Cheese ushers us into fall with a selection of cheeses designed to pair well with sweet fall wines. Selections will likely include Shawandassee, Magic Mountain, Constant Bliss, and Sennen Kase, among others. Anticipate tasting 12-14 cheeses, along with dark chocolate and fruit. 7 - 8:30 pm, 10 Degrees, 121 St. Marks Place. Admission the tasting is $30 and you pay for your drinks as you go. This event will be repeated on October 18th and 23rd. Reservations are required and can be made by email.
October 18: At The Table with New York’s Top Culinary Women
More than 50 percent of the food service industry workforce are women, yet few reach the upper echelons of their profession. The mission of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs (WCR) is to promote the education and advancement of women in the restaurant industry and the betterment of the industry as a whole. In support of this mission, WCR will feature some of NYC's top female toques and sommeliers at this fundraising reception and five course fine dinner. Sara Moulton of Gourmet Magazine is the Honorary Chair and MC for the event, and chefs include Anne Burrell, Centro Vinoteca; Heather Carlucci-Rodriguez, Lassi; Rebecca Charles, Pearl Oyster Bar; and Ivy Stark, Dos Caminos, among others. 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., Prince George Ballroom, 15 E. 27th Street (between Madison and Fifth Avenues), $150.
