Map of the Day: You're Being Ripped Off for Bud

The latest crowdsourcing project from WNYC's Brian Lehrer Show asked people to find out prices for a quart of milk, a head of iceberg lettuce, and a 6-pack (bottles) of 12-ounce Budweiser. Listeners of his show found locations around the area, reported back with their results, and it's all put in a handy map.
Most expensive milk: Pathmark in Gowanus and Garden of Eden in Brooklyn Heights at $2.99Note: If you're paying $13.69 for a six-pack of Budweiser anywhere, you're paying way too much.
Least expensive milk: Fine Fare in Gravesend at $0.99
Most expensive lettuce: two Food Emporium locations (TriBeCa and Union Square) at $3.49
Least expensive lettuce: various locations in NYC at $0.99
Most expensive Bud: a deli in TriBeCa at $13.69
Least expensive Bud: Fairway in Red Hook at $4.49
Not surprisingly, most of the higher prices beer locations are in Manhattan and most of the cheaper locations are in the other boroughs.

I have been drinking less and less in my old age, but some bars i have been to dare to charge $9 for a f**king bud... what gives?
is this the result of war and gas prices?
I think the map is great, but it does leave out that wild card of convenience. You're in a rush to go to a party where you need to bring a 6-pack...are you going all the way out to the Red Hook Fairway, or will you buy the overpriced 6-pack at a bodega on the way?
Budweiser is just a bottled water.
Jen: If you bring Bud to my party, I'm disinviting you. I am certain experienced beverage buyers can make some judgments about where to find better beer in their neighborhood at a reasonable price.
And who eats iceberg lettuce anymore?
i think the choices of items are because they are easy to find.
and at $13, you can usually buy much better beer. though if the store is charging $13 for bud, you're probably going to pay $20 for something better.
The most expensive price for the 6 pack of bud was $14.99 in Greenpoint, NOT a deli in Tribeca for $13.69. But I guess that chart is kinda hard to figure out.
budweiser is the king of all beers you elitist douchebag hipster trash.
famdoc, warning taken!
I'm just saying that I've certainly overpaid for beer, ice cream and milk when I've needed those items in a fix.
actually, add_robinson, that $14.99 beer is in greenPORT - as in long island. but i guess reading that word is kinda hard.
There's only three kings as far as #7 is concerned...Elvis, Richard Petty, and Bud.
I went to a bodega in chiacgo yesterday and mixed in with imported beers was a 200 bottle of dom perignon.
I bought it but I can't help but wonder if I overpaid.
No, bottled piss water...
It figures that Food Emporium was behind the ridiculous lettuce prices. I hate that place. The one on 42nd and 10th is the worst grocery store I've ever been to in terms of price.
budweiser is the iceberg lettuce of beers.
What's with all the racist comments against asians from yesterday?
haha Brilliant
You lucky bastards! One thing I really miss about New York is 99 cent 40's.
In Toronto a 40 is $6.00, and a 24 pack of beer can often be $39.
WTF. Liquor tax for the lose.
Then again, at least it's the same price everywhere because it's illegal to sell it in corner stores and supermarkets. Ugh.
The cashier at a Garden of Eden once stopped me from buying a six pack of Rolling Rock or Yueng Ling, one of those cheaper beers. Before ringing it up she asked me if I knew how much it cost, I didn't since it wasn't stickered. When she informed me it was $16 I said thank you and removed it from my items. I never could have imagined anyone could charge that for non fancy beer!
er, sidenote. How did the waving panda baby become so many default avatars? I'm insane for pandas, but I didn't install that on my profile...
I buy my beer on my weekly trip to Hannaford.
I don't know how they do it but they have sales on microbrews. Mainly stuff from around the NE region,
Sam adams, otter creek, wolavers and JW dundee.
cheapest was a 12 pack assortment of JW dundee for 5.99, a 12 pack of Sam adams winter lager was not much higher
the Heineken Keg was retail at $22.
If you're buying beer in an asian grocery/deli, you're just asking to get raped.
At least this survey was better than the "How many SUV's do you see on your block" Lehrer survey previous to this one.
Also, I miss the "Dollar Heineken Pitchers Thursdays" from my college days.
And here I am thinking, "You're Being Ripped Off for Bud" has to do with marijuana!
Now that would be a good map!
I thought it was weed to. And I dont even smoke. Then agian im not an alcholic either. The asian bodegas here in the west village are in there own price hiked universe.
