8-Year-Old Hit By Car in Chelsea

2007_10_pharris.jpgAn 8-year-old child is in critical condition at St. Vincent's Hospital after being hit by a car on West 17th Street in Manhattan. The Post says the child, Prince Harris, "darted out between two parked cars."

Harris's father, Prince Harris Sr., told the Daily News he, his son, and other relatives and friends were headed to the park, and described the scene, "A cab and a car were speeding down the block to make the light and one hit him. When I got to him, I saw him moving, but blood spilled from his mouth to the ground." He added, "My daughters saw it happen too and they're hysterical." Harris is a third-grader at PS 138.

The Toyota Scion owner who hit the child stayed, but apparently a mob formed and he called 911 to say he feared for his life. The police believe it was an accident and the driver was not charged with any crime.

Hey #15 - should we ban police cars, fire trucks and ambulances?

How about delivery trucks and buses?

That being said, there's a demonstrated need for garbage trucks and utility trucks too.

Plus in order to maintain and improve the infrastructure, we need construction vehicles, cement trucks, etc.

But a little boy couldn't possibly be hit by any of those if he ran into the street mid-block from between parked cars...

Retarded? Ghetto? You people are sick racist assholes. Kid ran into street. Kids sometimes do stupid things.

The speed limit in NYC should be 20mph.

    Skip that, ban cars.

Just an FYI, Mr. Albert Sharpton, he probably is disabled as PS 138 is a District 75 school for severely handicapped students.

Good on the driver for staying. If the kid did try to cross in the middle of the block, I don't see how it could be the drivers fault.

  • Albert Sharpton

    BTW that kid looks retarded.

  • Albert Sharpton

Jackpot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dad's a mega millionaire, he'll probably take it in one lump sum and use it to buy ghettofab clothing for his remaining children.

based on the comments here, looks like we're gonna have to rename gothamist to bensonhurstist.

Don't you all go be blaming Prince Sr., at least the last names match which is a rare occurence in that hood.

Prince Harris Sr., 27, a father of six. Really great. The asshole can't take care of one kid and he spawns five more? Why doesn't he run out in the street more often to save his kids?

  • Kojak

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you must be white. White parents don't spank their kids like minority parents do.

"Yeah, beatings are great for a kid's development."

They sure are! A good ass beating will ensure the child learns a valuable lesson. (Getting hit by a car works too, but why not do both?)

  • RatherBeBiking

Yeah, beatings are great for a kid's development. I assume you had alot of those Kojak?

  • Kojak

I too hope that he recovers fully.

And when he does, I hope his parents beat his ass for recklessly running into the street.

He darts out between cars on a busy street and he gets hit by a car. No kidding.

Was the corner that far away that he couldn't cross at the light? He's a third grader he should know a little better. Obviously his father, who is chronologically older than him I believe, didn't know any better either.

I hope he fully recovers and knows better next time.

  • Nick S

8 year old shouldn't be crossing the street alone...especially not at a crosswalk. blame falls squarely on the parents here.

#1 - I'm sure you have lots of friends.

A cab and a car were speeding down the block to make the light and one hit him.

New York drivers are always in such a rush - just to wait at the next red light. Was it worth jeopardizing the life of this young man?

  • guest

    Hang in there, Prince!

this is why you should never stay at the scene of an accident. Hit and run = best way to avoid jail time and civil suit. I tell my friends that all the time. Just go man.
