EVENTS: Both Open House NY and The New Yorker Festival are upon us. You can check out more of OHNY's event here, and The New Yorker Festival here. Some picks:

The New Yorker Festival hosts a conversation with Errol Morris tonight. He'll be talking with staff writer Philip Gourevitch about Abu Ghraib, with clips shown from Standard Operating Procedure -- his new film is a study of the prison-abuse scandal.

Friday // 8pm // Directors Guild of America [110 West 57th St] // $25

We were going to suggest the Tom Otterness studio tour that AMNY had a piece about today -- but that's all booked up now! So why not check out the inner workings of the art deco-inspired Astoria Pool? The "underground infrastructure features an innovative filtration system, original details and spectacular East River views."

Saturday // 10am to 4pm // Astoria Pool [19th St]

THEATER: If a dozen clowns can fit into that proverbial car, how many can cram into the L train? If the thought of squeezing into a packed subway car of Crusties is your worst nightmare, you'll want to steer clear of Union Square at 4:30 today, when New York’s finest (and least-bloodthirsty) clowns, jugglers and stilt-walkers assemble to ride the L train to Bedford Avenue. Once there, any clowns who manage to ascend the subway stairs despite those giant shoes will lead a parade to The Brick Theater, where the 2nd Annual Clown Theater Festival kicks off with a massive pie fight in the street and a cabaret show at 10pm. – John Del Signore

Friday // 4:30pm // Union Square, L train, The Brick Theater (575 Metropolitan Ave) // Free.

200710nico.jpgMUSIC: The Wordless Music Series continues tonight with Nico Muhly, Valgeir Sigurdsson and Sandro Perri. Special surprise guests are promised -- so it may be worth mentioned that Antony, Sigur Ros and Björk are all big fans of his. As for Nico (pictured), he's a New York-based classical composer who went to both Columbia and Juilliard and has worked with everyone from Björk to the American Ballet Theater.

Friday // 6:30pm // Good-Shepherd Faith Church at Lincoln Center [152 West 66th St] // $15

ART: Powerhouse Books is presenting Jamel Shabazz: 30 Year Retrospective tonight. "At age nine, Jamel Shabazz was introduced to photography by his father, who kept a signed copy of Leonard Freed’s Black in White America on the family’s coffee table. Intrigued by Freed’s provocative images of both Southern and urban life, Shabazz knew then it was his calling to document his community and the people who gave it life. Having worked as a corrections officer in New York City for twenty years, Shabazz has witnessed the worst in humanity, yet he remains a humanist dedicated to preserving the legacy of our time, shooting with an eye for the future while preserving the present as a document of our collective past." More info here. Free Stella Artois from 7 to 9pm. Also worth noting, VH1 will house their Hip Hop Honors weekend at Powerhouse Arena all weekend as well -- details here.

Friday (opening), runs through November 11th // 7pm // Powerhouse Arena [37 Main St] // Free, RSVP here

MUSIC: Who doesn't love a free show? This Saturday Sound Fix invites you all to check out a few great bands for the low price of $0. Radio I-Ching, Faith (feat. Felice Rosser), The Fiery Furnaces and Tom Brosseau will all be at the record shop's lounge to sonically dazzle you.

Saturday // 6pm // Sound Fix [110 Bedford Ave, Williamsburg] // Free

MOVIE: If you have Wes Anderson-fever after seeing his latest, The Darjeeling Limited, you're in luck. This weekend's midnight movie at Sunshine is his late 90s cult classic Rushmore.

Saturday // 12am // Landmark Sunshine Cinema [141-143 E Houston St] // $10.75

THEATER: After performing in a production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, Dutch theater artist Adelheid Roosen interviewed over 70 Muslim women from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Somalia, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq, asking them similar questions about their sexuality. Their stories of intimacy, love and oppression have been woven into The Veiled Monologues, which is performed by actresses of Turkish descent and a saz player (a Turkish stringed musical instrument). Following Sunday’s performance at St. Ann’s Warehouse, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Pulitzer-prize winning New York Times reporter Andrea Elliott. (Panelists include Roosen herself, Lena Alhusseini (Executive Director, The Arab American Family Support Center), Dalia Mogahed (Executive Director, Muslim Studies, The Gallup Institute), and others.John Del Signore

Sunday // 4:30pm // St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water Street, Dumbo, Brooklyn] // Tickets cost $30.
