Video of the Day: Adam Levine, Andy Samberg & Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

SNL is back! Not sure if the exclamation point is necessary, but their 33rd season kicked off this past weekend with some good stuff. LeBron James was host and Kanye West was the musical guest -- West actually showed up in a good sketch, though oddly enough not this musical one. The below is a ballad to the President of Iran called "Iran So Far" delivered by Andy Samberg and Maroon 5's Adam Levine. "You can't deny there's something between us. I know you say there's no gays in Iran, but you're in New York now, baby!"

Better than Dick in a Box?

    SNL can suck it.

MAD TV is far more superior.

  • robingee

Yeah, no gays in Iran. I get it. They're really sticking it to him.

You're the one who thinks this is funny. Who's the grownup?

  • guest

SO much funnier and better than "dick in a box." i mean, i guess if you're 7 yrs old it's pretty hard to top a dick joke; social/political commentary done in a HILARIOUS way is really more for grown-ups.

"you say there's no gays in iran... but you're in new york now, baby!" best best best part, especially with the cheers that follow.

Seriously. Dude. When Ahmadinejad was here last week, he claimed that Iran had no gay men. This is twitting him. Mayhaps if you paid attention to current events, you'd have gotten what the grown ups were talking about.

  • robingee

"Robingee - it's called tapping into current events, which is what SNL does best."

    Doesn't mean it's funny.

"If all you took away from it was that it was "about being in love with Ahmadinejad because he was just here," then you might as well go watch a Dane Cook movie."

What else was there to take from it? Please tell.

And my comedy preferences are excellent.

kind of surreal that the parody song samples Aphex Twin though, screwed with my head.

Never heard a nice thing about Lorne Michaels, and 'Not James Frey' is obviously on the SNL payroll.

  • guest

Lorne Michaels is a notoriously arrogant bastard, and not a nice man to be around (yes, I knew someone who actually had to report to the guy). With that said, the show should have been canceled 5 years ago. Lorne can take his Paul Simon Schmaltz CD's and retire already.

  • Not James Frey

#10 - so, you would have been happier with something that referenced events from four MONTHS ago?

#9 - SNL has always had pre-taped bits, not including commercial parodies. The fact is, these things are likely produced the same week as the show, IN ADDITION TO the work that Armisen, Samberg and others do LIVE. These actors and crew are the hardest working folks on TV, regardless of what you think is funny. If you'd rather be spoon-fed comedy, watch "Mad TV".

Robingee - it's called tapping into current events, which is what SNL does best. If all you took away from it was that it was "about being in love with Ahmadinejad because he was just here," then you might as well go watch a Dane Cook movie.

Maybe I nodded off but did they reference Larry Craig once?
    Yes.

  • guest

sorry but snl gets shittier and shittier every year, something has to be done or michael lorne has totally lost his touch, nothing but game show oriented skits, retread lampoon commercials, too many gay jokes (gay jokes are fine but it gets kind of old after awhile), a lot of weekend update jokes fall colin quinn flat (too bad tina fey moved on) they need to change the writers and/or some of the performers quickly, who knows maybe it was the host and kanye (yeah how does he sell records? his shit is boring) that double crapped the show, this week's should be better with seth rogen and spoon

  • guest

Ehh disappointing, nice compositing work though.

  • guest

THIS is the best SNL SKIT EVER!!!!! they only showed it once and it was shelved cause it was so offensive But I finally found it after 11 years.

#8 is right: They had almost four months of news stories to mine for jokes and almost every sketch sucked. Maybe I nodded off but did they reference Larry Craig once? Even the opening sucked.

  • guest

I like SNL Digital shorts but it defeats the PURPOSE OF Saturday Night LIVE. It's supposed to be a live sketch show in front of a live audience, not Saturday Night Prerehearsed and videotaped until we engineered it just right show. Seriously, I can watch these pre-taped comedy bits on every other channel.

  • robingee

Awful, stupid and unfunny. "I Ran" - really? That's the best they could do. They had all summer to come up with something funny and it's about being in love with Ahmadinejad because he was just here? What?

  • EricGewiz

Not better than "DIAB", but clever and funny! Armisen was great.

  • guest

not that funny but his other videos are hilarious - also whats his face NEVER denied the holocaust

  • guest

Pretty good but not as funny as Lazy Sunday
