Last Night's Action: New York/New York

2007_09_yankeeswc.jpg

From last place to the playoffs, the Yankees have taken their fans on a trip, but they will play October baseball once again. The same cannot yet be said about the Mets.

Wednesday night the Yankees completed a remarkable reversal, recovering from a 21-29 start to clinch their 13th-straight playoff spot with a 12-4 win. While it isn’t a definite, chances are they will be the Wild Card team and open the playoffs in Cleveland. Meanwhile, the Mets were swept at Shea by the Nationals, losing the final game of the series 9-6 and they saw their division lead shrink to one with the Phillies’ victory.

But, while the Yankees will celebrate a playoff spot first, they should not be the only team in New York to do so. The Mets still control their own destiny and they have their ace on the mound tonight. Both New York teams have put their fans through huge ups and downs this season, but hopefully they will both be playing and eventually playing against each other in October.

I don't care, this organization is still detrimental to professional sports.

I hope they pull a 2004 repeat performance and choke... yes, much like my beloved Mets are doing now.

if you're going to bother moving here from bumfuck the LEAST, the very least you could do is support the local teams. the yankees have pulled off something that money doesn't buy, and it proves why other teams are jealous - they have heart and the young guys infused some fuckin spirit. as far as the mets go, they held first place for the entire season and are making this an adventure for their fans. the only truism here is that boston sucks balls, and if the yankees take them out in the AL great, if not the fuckin mets better step up and do it in the series. oh and some of you are assholes beyond description.

#2? How about #3 for being a pedantic asshole? #2 said that they played almost .700, not .700 exactly.

You people seriously need to get a grip...

#6..Anyone can have anything imprinted on a drink container without being in the business.

    Poster #2,

Seriously you need a life or at least a few new hobbies.

    Yawn.

Baseball sucks. It's time they jazzed it up. Blurnsball anyone? (oh and did I mention baseball SUCKS!)

blah blah blah Yankees. blah blah blah Red Sox. Stop pretending you know anything about baseball and just shut up and watch the games morons.

The champagne celebration was stupid, childish and should be a thing of the past. Anyway, a wild-card berth is wonderful, but I would save the Moet for the World Series. The Yankees have had a problem getting past the first playoff round of late. I expect this year WILL be different, but let's let those proverbial chickens hatch first.

BTW, most of the "Champagne" seemed to come from six-ounce cans emblazoned with the word "Yankees"

Is Uncle George in the beverage business now?

"Now the Red Sux should step aside and let the Yankees rightfully win the division"

    Haaaaaaaaaa hhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaa hhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaa!!!

    That's funny..!

Hmmm... so let me get this straight... the Yanks have sewn up a playoff spot ahead of the Mets, and in a significantly tougher and more talented league... hmmm...

While #2's math is spotty, .648 ball in the American League, where the good teams are, is still nothing to scoff at.

BTW, Mets currently in third in the AL East, eight games back of the Sox and five out of a playoff spot.

91-67 minus the 21-29 start means they went 70-38 since May.

    70/(70+38) = 70/108 = 0.648 NOT 0.700

    And Rightfully? You're a retard.

Mediocrity? Since June 1 the Yankees have been playing almost .700 ball. They were 21-29 at the end pf May. Currently they 91-67 - a 32 game turnaround since May. That's not mediocre. And it was the rookies brought up from the minors that fueled this season's turnaround. They have earned a well deserved playoff spot. Now the Red Sux should step aside and let the Yankees rightfully win the division.

hm. great. Money can buy you mediocrity.
