More Swastikas Found in Brooklyn Heights

2007_09_bkhc.jpgThe NYPD's Hate Crime Unit is investigating numerous instances of anti-Semitic vandalism in Brooklyn Heights. Monday evening, swastikas were found painted on two synagogues, three buildings, and two cars, but by yesterday afternoon, over a dozen other markings were discovered (one brownstone also had an SS logo painted on it), as well as flyers with swastikas and slurs on cars' windshields.

Remsen, Columbia, and Joralemon Streets, the Palmetto Playground and Sidney Place were vandalized. The NY Times reports that over 20 detectives are assigned to the case and the NYPD's spokesman Paul Browne said, "The intensity and the number of incidents in a relatively small area on the Jewish holidays all combined to cause us to assign significant resources to the case."

Some rabbis and local politicians believe that Iranian leader and Holocaust denier Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presence in NY could have something to do with the incidents: Rabbi Aaron Raskin of Congregation B'nai Avraham, where a swastika was found on the steps, told the Sun, "I think the president of Iran arriving to New York spurred these hatemongers to come out of the closet."

One shocked resident told the Daily News, "This is a neighborhood of dialogue, of mosques, synagogues and churches. That makes it even more sad." Other anti-Semitic acts of vandalism have also recently taken place in Long Island and New Jersey, where a swastika was cut into a field.

This was obviously the work of Jews. They can't find the perp because the perp is a Jew. Jews have a history of doing things like this to either extort money or sympathy from a community.

    "Communists!" HA!

is is racist to question the authenticity of these reports?

    i have nothing against jews,

I just beleive that some of these reports are false.

its a sympton of a disturbed individual looking for easy attention, perverse satisfaction by provoking a negative response,

    Moreover,

    #23

You misread the Bill or Rights, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, not to mention the better part of your human soul. Go live in a fascist regime if you find joy and justice in hatred.

  • slappy

Tolerance does not mean tolerating racism. Racism is intolerance.

  • slappy

    and to #15...

Hatred and racism are not a part of "life is unfair" - "get over it". They are dangerous, hurtful attitudes that lead to violence and repression. Perhaps you don't feel victimized by such things. Take your head out of the sand and realize that an injury to one is an injury to all. That's the basis of a truly free society. Racism and Anti-Semitism doesn't go away by itself by you just ignoring it. It takes action and the raising of voices to overcome it. Are you the lurker I mentioned in post #22? If not, you are certainly his ally. That's how it happened in Germany.

  • guest

slappy why can't you tolerate their intolerance?

  • slappy

This single lurker who probablly writes all the racist and anti-semitic crap on Gothamist is a ridiculous fool. Nazi jerk. Viva free speech! So I am exercising mine. I'll type it again: Nazi jerk.

There's always a rise in this kind of thing around the major Jewish holidays... and Yom Kippur was this past weekend and Rosh Hashanah was last weekend. Of course, historically, anti-semetic acts in old Europe were rampant on those holidays, but even worse over Christmas and Easter. It was forbidden in some communities to even learn Torah on Christmas/Easter - mainly so you'd be 100% ready to get the hell out of your house should a "pogram" come to your town.

It has to be the jews. How the hell can you go into a jewish neighborhood, draw all those swastikas and hate slogans and not get caught by the omnipresent jew eye gang. They watch their neighborhood like hawks cause they are so insular. I call bullshit.

  • guest

It's a jewish conspiracy. You know they were at home going "ahmeddinjehad is coming to speak, how can we get sympathy?" so they draw swastikas on their own homes to cause public outrage to play on our sympathies. Oldest Jew Trick in the Book.

I think blaming Ahmadinejad is reaching just a bit. This coincided with the High Holy Days; I think that's a lot more coincidental. Ahmadinejad's not a white American male, so somehow I'm not so sure the neo-Nazis would be thinking too highly of him.

Regardless of what their motivation, it's still disgusting. We don't need to know why they did it to know they got they attention they wanted.
