The Wizard of Oz, Starring the New York Yankees

The Wizard of Oz has really been updated for current times. Now, in addition to Toto, Dorothy carries a bag from the 5th Avenue Apple Store with her. At least that's what Dorothy, played by Ian Kennedy, did as part of the Yankees' rookie hazing tradition where green players dress up in crazy outfits. We expect this version of The Wizard of Oz to come to an off, off, off Broadway location in the post-season.

Should we be reading into the outfits at all? Does Joba Chamberlain have no courage? Does Phil Hughes have no heart? Does Shelley Duncan have no brain? And if Ian Kennedy taps his heals together three times and says "There's no place like the playoffs," will the Yankees magically awake in the post-season?

Ohlendorf has pitched in four games and has actually looked promising. His ERA makes Kyle Farnsworth drool.

I agree that Shelley looks cute. Hubba Bubba!

Who is Russ Ohlendorf? Why have a picture of him and not Edwar or Matt DeSalvo or Tyler Clippard, who have actually played this year?

  • guest

    Joba looks cuddly.

  • Mason

GREAT! Not a fan of the Yanks (sorry)- BUT #1 FAN of Shelley Duncan - Looking hot Shelley! Very PROUD of YOU!!!!! Luv Ya Mason

So, Dave, which are the other 18 days a year when one doesn't hate they Yanks?

PS: #11, W of Oz wasn't Disney, but fair point. They were sort of Sleepy and Dopey yesterday.

  • guest

Maybe this explains why they played like Disney characters yesterday afternoon against the Blue Jays.

  • Dave Hogarty

One can hate the Yanks 364 days a year, but you gotta love 'em for stuff like this. Nice to see some professional athletes with a sense of humor regarding themselves.

where does a non-millionaire get costumers like that?

  • guest

that shit is hilarious. ALthough where the hell do they get wizard of OZ costumes in 6'6 mens sizes???????? that couldn't have been store bought.

  • smitty

I am crying inside!! How did I not know about this in advance? I wish I had been there. Sigh.

sports men are just as usefull as Paris Hilton is

Credit where credit is due: I want to know who designed and executed those costumes. Certainly, not the 21 year old jocks themselves. Could the uniform manager of the Yanks be doing some costume design off-Broadway in his spare time? Those were some well-done rags.

Credit where credit is due: That's some funny stuff.

just in case you haven't been paying attention:

    JOBA 1-0 16 games 21 inn. 10 hits 1 run 9 walks

    31 K's 0.44 era...he is a big goofy lion cub

and he's gonna be huge in the bronx...he

tossed me a ball on tuesday...i guess it paid

    off buying a chamberlain shirt!!!

    PHIL 4-3 12 games 65 inn. 60 hits 35 earned runs

    27 walks 53 K's 4.80... pretty good rook.

And he had a perfect game until an injury

late in the game...he's back and that takes

    HEART!!!

    SHELLY 15 hits 61 ab's 11 runs 6 hr's 15 rbi's

    .541 slg. .246 avg...better shorterm than

Giambi. I rode the 4 train with him on

Saturday night seems pretty smart to take

    mass trans from the stadium...BRAINY!!!

    IAN 1-0 3 games 19 inn. 13 hits 4 earned runs

    9 walks 15 k's 1.89 era...he's put up nice

numbers for us so far and come up in big

games in place of CLEMENS and MUSSINA...

his wedding is slated during the playoffs

so I guess the dress means he's going to

the chapel after his fiancee roars like a

    tornado.

Pretty funny, Tien, but I think if it's no heart or no courage you're looking for, you might have better luck across town.

  • Jen Chung

Kei Igawa's costume is the BEST!
