Openings Roundup

open-sign.jpgGrayz: Chef Gray Kunz's newest spot is located in the lower levels of a townhouse where the Rockefellers once resided. The newest resident is no less classy -- this high-end cocktail oasis/private event space serves up a menu featuring upscale nibbles like salt stone grilled prawns w/ kimchi, pear, and ginger, and minced veal weisswurst with handmade pretzels. 13-15 West 54th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, 212.262.4600.

Belcourt: Chef Matthew Hamilton, formerly of Prune and Uovo, re-emerges in the East Village with a Mediterranean/French flair. In addition to house made duck proscuitto, you'll find a menu encompassing the entire region, from boudin blanc dogs and oil poached octopus to slow roasted pork belly and sausage, salt cod bourride with brandade dumplings, and hanger steak with wine battered fried scallions and preserved rabbit legs. 84 East 4th Street at 2nd Avenue, 212-979-2034. Update from the PR folks -- expected opening 10/5.

El Quinto Pino: The crew from Tía Pol have opened another teeny spot, this time a mere 26-seater. This tapas bar is reminiscent of Madrid, with no tables, only stools, and a menu just as tasty its sister restaurant. 401 West 24th Street at Ninth Avenue, 212-206-6900.
