Last Night's Action: Steps in the Right Direction
- Mets 7, Marlins 6 (11 innings): A third straight win has pushed thoughts of panic to the back burner. Philadelphia lost, meaning the Mets' lead is 2 1/2. Stranger things have happened, but the Mets have buckled up in the driver's seat in the National League East. Please support David Wright for the MVP award. He put the team ahead in the 11th after another poor performance from the relievers. That bullpen still has to be a major concern for the Mets, but at least they'll probably get to see a playoffs explosion rather than a gruesome one in the regular season.
- Yankees 7, Blue Jays 5: Mike Mussina looked like a Major League pitcher for the third straight start, and you can bet he'll be in the postseason rotation. Remember the Joba Rules? Those didn't apply today. Joba Chamberlain, supposed to be unavailable after throwing two innings Friday, came in with two outs in the eighth and slammed the door to earn his first Major League save. With Tampa Bay's win over Boston, the Yankees moved to within a 1 1/2 games of the A.L. East lead. Remember, a tie would give the Yankees the division.
- Giants 24, Redskins 17: Were these really the Giants? They rallied from a two-touchdown deficit instead of giving it up. They played defense -- in the second half at least. And their opponents were the ones mismanaging the clock at the end of the game. This game saved their season for now.
- Jets 31, Dolphins 28: Maybe this passing attack is just fine. Chad Pennington threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Jets improved to 1-2. Aside from some shaky run defense, they should feel good about this effort.

As a boston Red sox fan I have to give mad props to the yankees for coming back and kicking our child molesting asses. Also, us bostonians have small penises and our girlfriends dream about getting reamed by Yankees fans in their butts. Yankees Suck!
The Mets really needed to step it up this weekend, and a win tomorrow I think seals the deal for me.
Anyone want to explain the 'if they tie, Yankees win the division' part?
Wow, all four NY/NJ teams won on the same night, when was the last time this happened?
Yanks win the division if they tie with Red Sox because they have a better head to head record. This rivalry is just too over-hyped by MLB, I would rather see the Angels win the AL.
neil - the yankees won the head-to-head series this year, 10-8.
#2 Since the Yankees won the season series against the Red Sux winning 4 of the 6 series (Yanks 10 wins, Sox 8 wins overall), they would win the division if there be a tie. As you can see with the first post, it's having a really bad effect on Red Sux fans.
1) giants didnt win that game, washington's coaches lost it
2) coughlin is an awful coach
The Redskins got away with a blatant hold on that last drive. The game should have been over much earlier.
I think yesterday has proven one thing: As shitty as the Giants are, the Redskins are even more shitty.
