A two-alarm fire in the Kensington section of Brooklyn Three people died while another was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The house on East 19th Street near Beverly Road is described as a two-and-a-half story house. The fire started in the attic and moved very quickly. Two adult women, ages 76 and 50 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene, and a 12-year-old boy died at New York Community Hospital. The survivor, a 16-year-old boy, suffered burns.
A firefighter told WCBS 2 that it's difficult to fight fires in these older houses because there are "tighter quarters" so it's difficult to maneuver. Six firefighters had minor injuries.

This neighborhood is not Kensington. It's actually called Ditmas Park, and is part of the bigger neighborhood known as Flatbush.
yeah, a bit east to be considered kensington.. i usually consider coney island ave to be the border.
this is scary though... i live in a house nearby..not a good thing to hear firefighters talk about how difficult it is to handle fires in our style of house.
not kensington at all. way too far east. That is more like flatbush or ditmas park or something. Its on the other side of the Q, and kensington is more serviced by the F. Some people on the eastern edge of kensington can get to the Q pretty easily, but yeah, way to far east.
I've been trying to find out more information about this. I live a few blocks away. This is the first item I've found which gives the address of the house. Some reports indicated that as many as six people were living in the attic/third floor of this house, possibly an illegal conversion situation. Having the address will allow me to research that claim.
BTW, the area is NOT Ditmas Park, the historic district which starts 2-1/2 blocks south of the fire. It's Beverly Square East. It's all Flatbush.
