Ahmadinejad Looks Forward to NYC Trip

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad headed to New York today, but not telling Iranian state-run TV, "The United States is a big and important country with a population of 300 million. Due to certain issues, the American people in the past years have been denied correct and clear information about global developments and are eager to hear different opinions." He added that the U.N. General Assembly was an "important podium" for Iran's views to be expressed.
And Ahmadinejad also appeared at a parade in Tehran. But not just any kind of parade. From 1010WINS:
A day before flying to New York to speak directly to the American people, Ahmadinejad struck a confrontational tone Saturday with a parade of fighter jets and missiles and tough warnings for the United States to stay out of the Mideast.Yeah, the NYPD would never, ever approve this kind of parade. The NYPD ans Secret Service have also barred the Iranian guards protecting Ahmadinejad not to carry guns, according to Daily News sources.Three new domestically manufactured warplanes streaked over the capital during the parade marking the 27th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Iran, which sparked a 1980-88 war that killed hundreds of thousands of people. The parade also featured the Ghadr missile, which has a range of 1,120 miles, capable of reaching Israel.
Some of the missile trucks were painted with the slogans "Down with the U.S.'' and "Down with Israel.'' The parade also featured unmanned aerial surveillance drones, torpedoes, and tanks.
The Iranian leader will also be speaking at Columbia University tomorrow at 1:30PM, and the school is bracing itself for thousands of expected protesters. Of course, the press is eating up School of International and Public Affairs dean John Coatsworth's statement on Fox News yesterday, "If [Adolf Hitler] were willing to engage in a debate and a discussion, to be challenged by Columbia students and faculty, we would certainly invite him." Oh, well, here's the clip:
Today, Assemblyman Dov Hikind held an anti-Ahmadinejad press conference outside of Columbia's gates. Via Bwog, there are tons of anti-Columbia Facebook groups now. And check out the Columbia Spectator's Ahmadineblog; best post so far: One person didn't quite understand that the college newspaper didn't actually invite Ahmadinejad. Tomorrow's protests at Columbia are beginning around 11:30AM, but protesters are gatherings much earlier.
Ahmadinejad will be on 60 MInutes tonight; Reuters reports that, when asked if Iran and the U.S. are headed to war, he says, "It's wrong to think that Iran and the U.S. are walking toward war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing."

man, that post is gonna take a loooooong time to straighten out before it starts to make sense. more speed, less haste.
they really used the phrases "down with Israel" and "down with the US"? isn't that kinda hippieish?
Let it rest, you NY Post wannabes.
There are at least 20 world leaders worse than this guy, many of whom have visited the US in the last 7 years. Can you name any of them?
(And because your post above indicates you are a bit slow, my point isn't that this makes Ahmadinejad any better, but that you are tools of administration propaganda. Go find your own bugaboos.)
Kill all sand niggers and be done with it.
"Down with Esrail"
And we're afraid of these losers?
and it starts.
the hate on the UWS by the Jews. they already got the MSM eating out of the palms of their hands.
Actually, the Arabic part of those signs say Death to Israel, not Down with Israel. It seems that one part of the sign takes the hard line for home consumption, and the other takes a softer line for international audiences.
or we got hippies writing for news organizations.
down with israel, up with people.
Where's Mel Gibson when you need him?
Esrail is the way persians spell israel in english... big deal.
Why not have an open dialogue with someone we may not agree with instead of just saying to hell with him, we hate you, stay away.
Look at who this school chooses to honor... Disgraceful.
#3, please name the 20 (minimum) that are worse?
Most of the world's nations are not democracy and are either ruled by a dictator or an elite few. They don't get the American news coverage because they are either too small, "friends" to the US govt., or have no natural resources the US craves. So what's the definition of "worse" here? If a dictator who brutalizes his people but is friendly to US interest considered better or worse than him? I support his opportunity to speak in Columbia, since then people can question him on his positions without being filtered through Iranian propaganda nor American media bias.
#13: Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Equatorial Guinea, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan , Laos, North Korea, Burma (also condemned by Laura Bush), Belarus, Zimbabwe and some would argue, the US.
For one thing, Robin, he is a liar. A history revisioner. A thug and a pussy wrapped up in one. Ahmadinejad isn't much of anything but a flippant PR machine for a mode of thought that promotes the same old, tired and definintely not true belief that the Jews are out there controling your life, your banks, your government, and all the shit and piss in it. Just get rid of the Jew-- or, in this case, just nuke Israel, baby-- and we'll all get back to a perceived normalcy.
No sense in marginalizing that. In fact, let's give the mofo an honoray post-doctorate from an Ivy League institution. Because it's freedom of speech, yo.
And Jena, LA doesn't have any racial issues. Okay?
Has anyone thought for a moment that this whole circus is little more than an esoteric version of Anna Nicole Smith's death, the OJ Simpson Experience (versions 1 or 2), or the Monica Lewinsky oral affair?
As important as it is to have, or not have, Mr. Ahmadinejad here, the level of intensity and media coverage makes me wonder how this becomes different than any other sensationalized headline of the week. The man is obviously a Holocaust revisionist, but I also find it hard to swallow that he would be the only one at the United Nations this week. He is the most vocal, perhaps, but there are plenty of other seedy individuals in town this week as well.
In the Dean's words,
"It should never be thought that merely to listen to ideas we deplore in any way implies our endorsement of those ideas, or the weakness of our resolve to resist those ideas or our naiveté about the very real dangers inherent in such ideas."
Couldn't agree more. Being a civil society means being capable of holding civil discourse, even with those with which you disagree.
#15. Some of those countries may also conduct or condone abhorrent behavior, but they are not, with the possible exception of North Korea, more threatening to the U.S. or global stability than Iran is.
And you didn't even get close to 20.
Try again.
Israel = WMDs
no more money nor American Soldiers lives for them.
that's how they effect us.
