Pencil This In

THEATER: In November, Tom Stoppard’s latest smash hit Rock ‘n’ Roll will transfer from London to Broadway (delighting Rushmore fans by bringing Brian Cox – AKA Dr. Guggenheim – in tow.) In the meantime, fans of our most intellectually dazzling living playwright can plug into Stoppard Goes Electric, an evening of three short teleplays that Stoppard penned for BBC early in his career. According to the Boomerang Theatre Company, which is producing the program, some have never been seen live on stage before. Ends Sunday.– John Del Signore

THEATER: The city’s cultural pulse is driven by vibrant little holes like Under St. Marks – it’s always a little exciting to step down into this cozy theatrical warren for a wholly unpredictable experience. Sure, we’ve sampled weak sauce down there but the stuff that works is often a taste of important things to come from the real emerging artists. Of course, the venue itself is hardly the only reason to recommend their current intriguingly titled production ...and we all wore leather pants. There is fist-pumping magic crackling around this tale of a fractured family whose pieces are pulled together when a strange visitor arrives – a man who may or may not be part of the world’s most notorious heavy metal rock band. Martin Denton calls it "funny...a dizzying roller-coaster ride of a play." – John Del Signore

Saturday // 8pm // Under St. Marks [94 St. Marks Place] // Tickets cost $18.

200709calendar.jpgEVENT: Anticipate the new year with a new 2008 calendar launch with the I Heart Brooklyn Girls. Each lady, January through December, will be wearing her outfit from the calendar -- each a one-of-the-kind designed by Brooklyn designers. The launch party will also include deejays, go-go dancers and some burlesque!

Saturday // 9pm // Southpaw [125 Fifth Ave, Park Slope] // $10

MOVIE: Hedwig and the Angry Inch (the movie) was "adapted from the critically acclaimed off-Broadway rock theater hit and tells the story of an 'internationally ignored' rock singer, Hedwig and her search for freedom and love." Just because this is the big screen version and not the stage version doesn't mean you can't sing-a-long, right? This weekend you'll be encouraged to do just that, and who knows, John Cameron Mitchell or Michael Pitt may just show up.

Saturday // 12am // IFC Center [323 Sixth Ave] // $10.75

Sunday // 7:30pm // Galapagos [60 N 6th St, Williamsburg] // Free
