Last Night's Action: Put It In The Books!

2007_09_loduca.jpg

  • Mets 8 Nationals 4: Boy did they need this one. With the division lead down to 1-1/2 games, the Mets could not afford to get swept by Washington and they showed some fight Wednesday night, by getting a game they had to have. And, perhaps best of all, the Phillies lost in extra innings, putting the division lead back at 2-1/2 games.

Moises Alou shook off an injury and provided three hits and a RBI. David Wright had 3 RBI’s and Jorge Sosa pitched two solid innings of relief. The only down note was that Paul LoDuca got hit by a pitch and had to leave the game. His status is listed as day-to day.

  • Yankees 2 Orioles 1: The “Joba Rules” have been changed as Chamberlain came into the game in the middle of an inning for the first time, but the result was the same- no runs. Mariano made things interesting in the ninth, loading the bases, but ultimately got the job done. Boston and Detroit both lost again which means the Yankees are 5-1/2 up in the wild card and 1-1/2 behind in the division.

"Joba Rules?" I wish the Mets had the "Mota Rules." No pitching Mota in any game that isn't already a blowout.

What happened to the Red Sux having a lock on the AL East?

The 2-1 victory was better baseball than the previous night's 12-0 blowout. Watching both starters work past 100 pitches and pitch well, seeing Mariano work out of his mess (clearly, he wasn't pitching well at all, having trouble finding the strike zone and throwing an ineffective cutter) was more gratifying than most games.

And, of course, we're seeing the traditional Red Sox end-of-season choke.

I said way back in April when the Yankees were 14 games back that they would still win the division and the world series this year...

Wait..If you're real quite for a second you can almost hear the Red Sux choking

i is a quite people

Such arrogance from a fanbase with a team still in second place. Typical. I give the Yankees more credit if they can dispatch Cleveland or Anaheim/LA in a five game series.

#6... Wait on it...

I have no worries about the Mets. The Phillies are the worst team in in the history professional sport anywhere so the most they can do is play spoiler as they crash and burn.

Hey Gothamist..!

I'm only seeing half of the comments..!

Fix please

Paul LoDuca caption: "Ay what's all dis commotion!!! Will somebody explain to me, what's wit all da commotion over here!!!"

[9] Have you tried selecting [SHOW GUEST COMMENTS] at the top of the comments section?

Thankyou #9

That's why they call Lo Duca "Captain Red Ass."

LOL, [10]. Great reference.

Does this new daily rant replace your one about Bud Selig?

And how does past performance have any relevence to the future?

The Phillies are the worst team in in the history professional sport anywhere

You forgot The Cubs

I was @ the Yankee game, and the most exciting part was during the last inning when we couldn't get anyone out. The energy in the crowd was amazing when "finally" the final out was made.
