Trump Gets All the Best Anti-Development Signs

2007_09_cleversigns.jpg

Donald Trump held a press conference to welcome his yooge Soho condo-hotel hybrid this afternoon, and it was a Trump family affair: Donald, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric were all involved in pointing out various aspects of the project. Trump said, "I want to thank all the protesters outside for making this project so successful."

Well, even though the city approved the building, the protesters aren't stopping any time soon. Not only did they appear outside the press conference with some great puns, the groups are ready to continue the fight: The SoHo Alliance wants to sue the city and get the Trump Soho's approval overturned while the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation told City Room that the opposing groups will take up the matter with the Board of Standards and Appeals first.

Trump built on a parking lot in an industrial zone a block above the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. Pick your battles more wisely, people.

Leave Trump alone. The site was a wasteland in a section of the city which for the most part is a wasteland. There was and is nothing historical about a parking lot with a greasy spoon restaurant to save and moan about.

Hudson Square in a few years will be a hotel haven. Let it go GVSHP.

Also it's a pretty cheap shot to dwell on the man's tonsorial features.

anyone ever got to west end between like 59th and 72nd? i never been there until last night and it's absurd. trump and some others turned that whole area into a homogenous millionaires playground. if that's the future of this city...get me the fuck out

^^Leave. My tears go out to your new neighbors.

Trump has a small dick.

yay yuppies!

GVSHP???

sooooooooo funny

The problem with this building is it's height. It is just too damn tall. BTW to the comment about the neighborhood being a wasteland, you obviously have never set foot there.
There is absolutely no basis for calling the area a wastland.
Yes, it is built on a parking lot, but at least it was open space.
The new structure is massively out of place and will cast a large shadow over the heart of soho.
Too big, too much.
Scaled down to 20 stories wouldn't be so much of an issue but 45 stories, obnoxious.

Well, it's official, New York is over

#2, if Trump is to be "left alone" then he really shouldn't be so darn pugnacious towards anyone he perceves as being "against him".

Soho a wasteland? Ummmm, not for decades sweetie. Do you even know where Soho is?

The planned building is just too tall.

THE BUILDING IS NOT IN SOHO! IT'S KIND OF LIKE IN HUDSON SQUARE BUT NOT, BECAUSE IT'S ON THE EAST SIDE OF VARICK STREET.

The twin towers were too tall also, but they got built.
