Columbia security, get that riot gear ready! Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, the pseudo-militia that patrols the border, tells the Columbia Spectator that, yes, he's up for a repeat appearance.
Last year, Gilchrist spoke at Columbia University, at the request of the Columbia College Republicans, only for a crazy, violent clash to occur when protesters stormed the stage. Students and Minutemen tussled (see video here), politicians and school officials frowned, and punishments were handed down to some students (essentially slaps on the wrist).
The Spectator reports that lecturer David Eisenbach invited Gilchrist for this year's "Friendly Fire" lecture series in January, and Gilchrist said he planned on attending, though "Nothing is completely solid at this point." Naturally, the students involved in the protest groups who originally protested Gilchrist aren't happy, but there was an interesting reaction from College Republican director of operation Lauren Steinberg (class of 2009): "Personally, I really hope he's not coming. I mean, it was a fun time last year, but I don't need it to happen again."
In the meantime, Gilchrist has become interested in NYC real estate development. He wrote on his blog that he "giggled" when he watched a video of Columbia president Lee Bollinger get raked over the coals by Manhattanville expansion opponents: "It’s hard to feel bad for the man when he refuses to do anything to halt much worse behavior on his own campus."

This will be better than professional wrestling.
Not sure if it'll beat pro wrestling, but it should be better than last night's Unforgiven. It wouldn't make sense for the republicans to invite him (not did it make that much sense when they invited him last year).
Jim Gilchrist is a hero.
There is nothing pseudo about his militia. Gilchrist is a disgusting racist who panders to the perpetually ill-informed about matters of immigration. I suggest those who consider him a hero actually read into immigration and its effects on population and culture in America before supporting this divisive individual. Without immigration none of us would be here and we should always remember that when a new group of people move into the country for they will shape our future.
if you're going to pull the tired racism card and call all who disagree with you 'ill-informed' then tell me diabolix, when did 'illegal' become a race?
Without immigration none of us would be here
I'm all for immigration but this a tired and irrelevent argument. My ancestors came here legally. In fact, my grandmother came here to get married and still had to go back to wait for a visa.
and we should always remember that when a new group of people move into the country for they will shape our future.
And will they shape it for the better?
Illegal immigration is such a weird debate. The anti-illegal people get really upset by it. It's so weird to see them get all fired up over something that isn't immoral. Usually it's issues over morality (or perceived morality) that get people's blood boiling. Think: abortion, gay rights, etc...
D. Boon is coming to NYC? Shit yeah!
diabolix you are a total idiot!
I recall seeing a link somewhere, I think from this site, of Jen bending over, showing off her cleavage, but can't find it now? Anyone?
It sounds different, but this is interesting: http://flickr.com/photos/97955589@N00/539463352/
The Minutemen are not the KKK, and even if they were, they have the same First Amendment rights as everyone else. Let's hope Columbia can get its act together.

What a slut.

Is that the before picture of a bukkake session?
The fact is racism against Mexicans and other Hispanics in their OWN COUNTRIES is the main cause of the massive illegal immigration and is something that never seems to make the papers. Quite ironic...
@ Diabolix - Thinking like yours is the problem here. Listen:
I am pro-immigration.
I am anti-illegal immigration.
Is that really so hard to wrap your head around?
The Minutemen don't shoot or confront people; they only observe and report. So I guess not only is breaking the law to enter the country a hallowed right, but *noticing* people breaking the law is a terrible evil.

now that's a first. I bet the person who wrote that, never lived in another country long enough to understand some basic realities. Most of the Undeveloped countries have the rich and poor classes, no middle class.
Their Corrupted governments with all their departments steal, and basically "rape " the country leaving it worse than it was.
So what would these poor people do? As no one will ever be able to make it better within these conditions...they seek change and go where there's some small chance, but a chance none the less.
NOT the RACISM within them in their own countries
as a MAIN cause. That's just a silly reason.
