MTA Projects Move Closer to Federal Funding

Last week, the Senate passed the Transportation Appropriations Bill that includes some big bucks for NYC mass transit projects. There's $125 million for the Second Avenue Subway, plus another $200 million for the East Side Access Project (LIRR connection to Grand Central).

Senator Chuck Schumer said, "The Second Ave. subway line will provide desperately needed relief to the severely stressed Lexington line," while Senator Hillary Clinton said, "Now that the ground has been broken and the commitment is real for the Second Ave. subway, this kind of federal investment is critical to helping the city and state keep the project on track." Ground was broken for the future T line in April.

Of course, the key will be for the Senate and House to agree on the bill: The Daily News reports, "The bill now goes to a conference committee, where the Senate and House must reach a compromise on funding for transportation projects across the nation."

The only money spent on mass transit should be to improve service, not sugar caot everything. I'd rather catch my subway in a dump as long as it arrived quickly. I guess they want the subway stations to be nice since we'll all be standing in them waiting for a train longer.

That is one shabby rendering. Why is it that some people cast shadows and others don't? Also the two guys in the middle left are too small for their position in the rendering.

The dumb chick in the left forground, checking her email messages on her cell phone, is going to broadside the dude who is just standing there counting clouds in the sky.

I especially like the brain surgeon in the white shirt who's standing there not being able to decide what gateway to go through.

There's something wrong when a Blue State like Massachusetts drops $15 billion on a highway project.

And instead of worrying about Federal dollars maybe New York should stop cutting tax breaks to corporations.

  • the federal funds for the MTA are a drop in the bucket compared to the billions the feds have shelled out for the failing/corrupt "Big Dig" project in Boston.

This is effectively an UES extension of the Broadway line. Don't expect any T trains for decades until a full length 2nd Ave subway is built.

The MTA should really provide a monthly or weekly public progress reports on construction. I feel like that they should've reached 72nd Street by now.

The 2nd Ave. subway says, "Hey QT, wanna ride?"
