200709mmmbeer.jpgBEER: This one is pretty simple...there will be lots (58!) of New York beers, and a few bands to soundtrack your drinking them, at the Seaport tonight. Go, imbibe, enjoy!

Friday // 5 to 10pm // South Street Seaport // $55

THEATER: Paso Doble was a sold-out hit at the 60th anniversary Festival d’Avignon last summer; for one weekend only sculptor Miquel Barceló and dancer Josef Nadj have brought their messy spectacle to St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO. It has to be seen to be believed. “Emerging in black suits from a giant wall of wet clay, onto a stage also made of it, the artists perform a dance in which they axe, sling, slap and shape the stuff, often burying themselves and one another in the work ever-in-progress.” (Watch a stunning preview of the show here.) – John Del Signore

Friday // 8pm // St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water St, Brooklyn] // Tickets cost $35.

EVENT: This month's One Step Beyond party at AMNH is tonight, and features Bonde do Role -- a band that brings the beat to make you dance! Drinks are free, and so is the space show! More details here.

Friday // 9pm // American Natural History Museum, Rose Center [81st St and Central Park West] // $25

BLOCK PARTY: The Kitchen High Line Block Party transforms 19th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues (under the High Line), "into a colorful, kid-friendly bazaar with artist-led activities, crafts and workshops, live performances, and food from neighborhood restaurants." Be prepared for bean planting, potato printing, face painting and even a hula-hoop workshop! And for those not afraid of slimy creatures, there will be a reptile petting zoo.

Saturday // Noon to 5pm // West 19th St between 10th and 11th Aves // Free

SPORTS: WCBS Yankees Radio's 2nd annual Yankee FanFest, celebrating baseball and the Yankees at Lincoln Center. The family-friendly event will have batting cages, speed pitch, autograph sessions with former Yankee players, and live music. After the activities, watch the Yankees take on the Red Sox on the big screen.

Saturday // 2 to 7pm // Lincoln Center // Free

THEATER: Visionary puppet artist (don’t call him a puppeteer!) Basil Twist spent four months in Japan researching the once popular art form, dogugaeshi. In Twist’s virtuoso hands, the mechanical intricacies of the staging become a sublime reincarnation of an all-but-forgotten tradition. A beguiling snow-white fox invites the audience into “a transformational world of illusions, in which nearly 100 handcrafted painted screens open, glide, twist and turn to reveal one more powerful and intricate than the next.” When the production (aptly titled Dogugaeshi) premiered at Japan Society in 2004, The New York Press remarked that “the intimate staging beguiles the eye like a pond full of koi.” – John Del Signore

Saturday // 7pm & 9:30pm // Japan Society [333 E 47th St] // Ticket prices vary.

BOOKS: The 2nd annual Brooklyn Book Festival will bring Dave Eggers, Jonathan Safran Foer, Jonathan Lethem, Rev. Run of Run-DMC, Chuck Klosterman, and even Marty Markowitz all in to one room this Sunday. Brooklyn's borough prez says the event "is a book lover’s dream come true!" The festival will include author discussions and readings, nearly 100 booksellers, thousands of books and a whole lot more. More details here.

Sunday // 10am to 6pm // Brooklyn Borough Hall // Free

2007_09_pickles.jpgPICKLES: When we lived on Orchard Street years ago, we could smell this day coming before it even got there. It's the 7th Annual Pickle Day! So many vendors, so many pickled items and so much more (including the Greenmarket's Farmers Market happening on the same block). We highly recommend you try and buy the McClure brothers pickles, delicious!

Sunday // 10:30am to 4:30pm // Orchard Street between Broome and Grand Streets // Free

MUSIC: This Sunday seems like the perfect day to check out the new venue The Yard. Todd P brings Dan Deacon, USAISAMONSTER, Big A little a, Best Fwends, Bill Cosby & His White Pudding Pops, and High Places to the outdoor venue.

Sunday // 2pm // The Yard [388-400 Carroll St, Brooklyn] // $8

MOVIE: The Reel Life Movie House brings the 80s back this weekend with a classic tale of teen angst, first times and awkward coming-of-age moments. This Sunday reacquaint yourself with Samantha Baker, Long Duk Dong and Farmer Ted, as Sixteen Candles screens at Galapagos.

Sunday // 8pm // Galapagos [60 N 6th St, Williamsburg] // Free
