The Colbert Report got a double dose of the Bloomberg administration yesterday. Not only was Schools Chancellor Joel Klein the interview guest, there was a short bit about Stephen Colbert "interrupting" a mayoral speech in Times Square to ask Mayor Bloomberg to sign his cast. The Bloomberg video is above and video of Klein's segment is below.
During his appearance, Klein discussed the city's cash incentive pilot program for the poor where family members will be compensated for doing certain things, like going to the dentist or having good school attendance. Colbert opined, "Now, I love this idea of paying the students because, what it does is, it brings free-market forces to knowledge. If you score in seventh grade and make $500, you can invest that money in nerds to write term papers for you when you get to eighth grade."
Klein also did another segment on the show after his interview - here's a link.

Colbert is an ass. His show got very 'schtick-y' very quick. We get it ... you're sarcastic and dry-witted.
While Colbert can get a little old, watching it every once in a while is OK.
As far is this post goes, however, I want to ask the Gothamist editors to proofread their posts. I have noticed it a lot more lately and I hate to be a nag and whatnot, but it's pretty annoying to be reading something and then be like "What the fuck is that sentence supposed to mean?" Just a thought.
Colbert is satire. Obviously #1 doesn't get it.
Or is it you who does not get that there's not much to get? (arched eyebrow)
Actually, I have no opinion, I don't have cable.
Paying New York City kids to do better in school = REALLY REALLY GOOD IDEA! Pay them!!!! They're sure as hell doing to do the work!
I know if I were in their position I would be!
Or is it you who does not get that there's not much to get? (arched eyebrow)
relax your eyebrow. I get it just right.
Klein is such a humorless bald headed fuck. You can see how uncomfortable he is with Colbert's lampooning his foolish idea of paying kids to do well.
Ohh well I guess the point is to make kids into greedy consumers and never mind about civic mindness.
Klein is only good at one thing--abusing teachers! All he needs are the two horns and the tail.
