THEATER: Sarah Maxfield, the brains behind theater collective Red Metal Mailbox, brings THROW, the bi-monthly performance series she curates, to The Chocolate Factory in Long Island City. Imbibe cheap beer and vibe new work by Rebecca Davis, Betsy Miller & Dancers, and Tara O'Con. After each experiment, Maxfield moderates an exchange in which each performer interrogates the audience in hopes of culling constructive criticism from the increasingly lubricated crowd. Who’ll be the first to declare, “Worst performance art EVER”? - John Del Signore
7pm // The Chocolate Factory Theater [5-49 49th Ave, L.I.C.] // FREE
MOVIE: The 1985 film starring Helena Bonham Carter, A Room with a View, is screening at MoMA tonight. Before it hit the big screen, it was only on the bookshelf...the E.M. Forster novel (and the film) will bring you back in time to Florence, Italy in the early 1900's.
8pm // MoMA [11 W 53rd St] // $10
MUSIC: Tonight The Secret Machines begin their month-long residency at...The Annex. An interesting choice for the band to showcase their new lineup as a duo, but it'll be great to see them in such a small space.
8:30pm // The Annex [152 Orchard St] // $15
EVENT: One Million Forgotten Moments began yesterday and will be running through the 16th. "Both public spectacle and September 11th memorial, One Million Forgotten Moments gathers 100 of New York City’s most talented artists in a performance that celebrates what makes our city special—its endless desire to create and its infinite ability to reinvent." The Park Row venue has a past life as an "adult entertainment" dvd shop, but it's now a beautiful jewel box theater.
7pm and 9pm // Park Row [38 Park Row] // $1
COMEDY: This show brings comedy into the dark, and we don't mean that in a noir sort of way. "Being stuck in a blackout in NYC can be a hot, sticky mess. Being stuck with improv group Blackout can be quite similar. Leave your flashlights, canned goods and bottled water at home for an evening of fun in the dark with: Cory Cavin, Kirk Damato, Michael Martin, Pam Murphy, Beth Newell, Craig Rowin, Anna Rubanova, and Kristy Webb."
9:30pm // UCB Theater [307 W 26th St] // $5
