Last Night's Action: Outlasting the Royals

  • Yankees 3 Kansas City 2: It wasn’t always pretty and it was too close for comfort, but in the end the Yankees got the job done. Alex Rodriguez got things going in the second with his 49th home run of the year and Jorge Posada added his 19th to put the Yankees up 2-0. But, Ian Kennedy struggled with his command, walking three in the first and then allowing four hits in the second to tie the score, but he escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam to prevent further damage.

Things settled down from there as the Yankees had some opportunities but couldn’t convert. Then in the seventh, after the first two batters were retired, Jeter singled and Abreu doubled to bring him home with the game-winner. Joba Chamberlain got to pitch in front of a lot of friends and family (he is from Nebraska) and kept his streak going with two scoreless innings. Mo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save and the Yankees maintained their three-game lead in the wild card.

  • Mets 11 Houston 3: Mike Pelfry dodged bullets all night, giving up ten hits in just over five innings, but some key pitches and his defense kept him in the game. Lastings Milledge and Carlos Beltran went deep and Guillermo Mota had his fourth-consecutive scoreless appearance.
  • Henin is better than a whole family: First she beat Serena, Friday she beat Venus 7-5, 6-4 to reach the Women’s Final. There she will face Svetlana Kuznetsova who defeated Anna Chakvetadze 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Rutgers 41 Navy 24: It took the Scarlet Knights a little while to warm up, but they cruised to an easy victory over the midshipmen.
  • Brooklyn 5 Lowell 4: The Cyclones won again, snuffing out a late rally by the Spinners.
  • Tri-City 11 Staten Island 2: The Baby Bombers got destroyed early in this one, trailing 8-2 after three innings.

The Williams sisters are the sorest losers and their dad is such a slimeball. I am so happy that Henin kicked their asses.

AROD should start taking steroids.

bless you!

AROD should start taking steroids.

Heh... Yeah--starttaking them.

We're getting pretty damn close to Joba's first earned run. A couple of long fly balls caught just short of the centerfield wall. It's been a great run, however.
