On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events

Oysters, Guiness, Irish music -- what more do you need, really. Head to Riverside Park for this free festival -- oysters and Guiness available for purchase. Hudson Beach Cafe, 103rd St, at Riverside Park, 4-9:30 PM, call (917) 370-3448 for more information.

September 9: Slow Cooker Demo
Rosh Hashannah is right around the corner -- time to get your brisket on, and a slow cooker is just the thing. Broadway Panhandler is hosting a demo by All-Clad of their new slow cooker. Free, 2 - 4PM, 65 East 8th Street between Broadway and Mercer. (212) 966-3434.

September 11: Chowdown Episode 14
Move over, boys. It's time for the women to take over. Chowdown Episode 14 brings in a shot of estrogen with organic chef Kelly Geary, and DJ Seraphim Delush spinning electro disco. Reservations required and can be made online; seating is limited. 7pm, $45, drinks not included.

September 12: Beard on Books -- Matt and Ted Lee
This month’s installment of Beard on Books featuring Matt and Ted Lee, authors of The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook, winner of the 2007 James Beard Award for Cookbook of the Year. Beard on Books is free for students with a suggested donation of $20 for non-students. Illy caffè and Acqua Panna and S. Pellegrino waters will be served, and light refreshments will be provided by the Lee brothers. Guests are also welcome to bring a brown bag lunch.
