Sneak Peak at Gunn's Style
Tim Gunn's Guide to Style officially premieres tonight, but Bravo served it as a surprise aperitif to Top Chef last night.
The gist: Gunn gives a makeover à la What Not to Wear's Stacy and Clinton, the Queer Eye guys, and the popular girl that takes the ponytail out and glasses off of the unpopular girl in every teen movie.
His first challenge: a woman that wears Juicy Couture sweats. There is no way to make that work! So a complete overhaul is needed. Gunn, the Miss(ter) Manners of the fashion world, is accompanied by Veronica Webb -- a sidekick who basically just agrees with him when she isn't finger waving the makeoveree's clothing choices.
Gunn's wardrobe essentials: A basic black dress, classic white shirt, jeans, day dress, trench coat, blazer...you get the idea. Of course, most DIY at-home makeovers don't include a life coach and a visit to Bill Blass studios -- so you may need to put more effort into making it work.
Does he succeed in making over the makeover show? Not really, but it's Tim Gunn - so he does class it up a bit.

Nice to see Veronica (grrr!) Webb back in the game.
why do women take advice from gay guys and old jealous women? they just make them anorexic. How can you even say Tim Gunn has style when all he wears are generic banana republic suits and white shirts? This just proves women are dumb
Life coach? Tim Gunn is a life coach? I would hire him!
I adore Tim Gunn, and also think Veronica Webb is great, but this first show was PAINFUL. That poor makeover victim, granted in all her bad taste clothing, was just being tortured. I hope the show gets better.
#2 No, young WHITE women are dumb...
#2: he's the dean of fashion at parsons, he has to know something. i actually rather enjoyed this first episode, but veronica webb's side part needs some help...it's HUGE!
The whole show seemed a bit too rehearsed and fake, especially the ending. Yes, the woman looked awful at the beginning and great at the end but I am willing to bet she is back in her Juicy sweats in no time. What Not To Wear is a way better show.
You know what would be awesome? Some uber straight construction worker guy giving makeover advice. I would watch that!
Gunn is no longer at Parsons. Veronica was too quiet, and I didn't like her outfits, either.
I love the jewess in what not to wear. stacy london.
Lou grant would say she's got spunk.
The original What Not to Wear on BBC/BBC America with Trinny and Susannah beats any of the knock-offs, including this one with Tim.
Loved Trinny and Susannah when they originated all this before they left the BBC, but I think that TLC's Stacy and Clinton are the best team out there - they actually dress people for their lives. Trinny and Susannah have wussy European weather in mind when they dress people, and sometimes one needs to dress for the weather. The BBC makeovers tend to all look the same - good taste level, but you wonder if they'll keep it up after the show.
Love Tim and Veronica - the show....not so much. Does all this mean no Tim Gunn on Proj R?
veronica webb looks like she hasn't aged a bit.
Where is Project Runaway.. is it done?
