What's Happening With Ground Zero Construction

2007_09_completionwtc.jpg

The Post created this handy graphic explaining the progress of buildings at the World Trade Center site. Describing construction as "booming," the Post suggests the "least heralded project" is the "massive, 80-foot-deep...bathtub" for three Church Street office towers and their foundations. Any takers on whether these projects get finished in time? We will bet that Freedom Tower opens in 2011, even if it's not completely finished, for a 10-years-after-September 11 ceremony.

There are many projects at the site, and the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center projected how labor, as well as concrete and steel, demands will skyrocket in the next few years because of WTC projects.

In other September 11- related news:
- Newsday reports the FDNY has opened four satellite 9/11 treatment centers in NY State, includnig Queens. The goal is to encourage more firefighters to use its medical services.
- The New York Historial Society is readying its September 11 exhibit, which includes a 1500-pound piece of airplane landing gear from one of the towers.
- The Village Voice counts "more than 52 illnesses have been mentioned in connection with the 9/11 toxic cloud, either anecdotally in press reports, more broadly in government comments, or with some scientific underpinning in research studies."

well, gee, that's awesome! only SIX YEARS after the attack, and we've got a TEMPORARY STATION? truly amazing, that technology!

but thank god we can shut down an entire park and portions of downtown for days at a time to help the victims commandeer the memory of a day that is, of course, just about them!

This does look sort of impressive. Should I reserve my skepticism? ..no.

I'd be surprised if 1/2 of this was built by 2010. Maybe I'll hold on to this nice graphic to compare the results to in 3 years!

Too little too late. Plus those who were going to seek help already maybe the attempt. It is a nice gesture.
