Staten Island Man Set Girlfriend on Fire

2007_09_lighter.jpgThe court documents revealed a disturbing incident from the weekend: Thirty-three-year-old William Johnson poured rubbing alcohol on his girlfriend and then lit her on fire. The girlfriend, Cindy Zucker, is now in critical condition, with burns on 20-35% of her body.

Around 4:40AM, an argument between Johnson and Zucker grew ugly. The police happened to be at 58 Beekman Street in Port Richmond on another call. The Post reports that when the cops knocked at their door, Johnson allegedly said, "She's crazy. Check her record, he has a psych history," and an officer found Zucker "on fire from the waist up." A neighbor told the Staten Island Advance, "It was a bloodcurdling scream like I've never heard before in my life." Police helped put out the fire and got Zucker medical attention.

Johnson was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment and was ordered to be held without bail at Rikers.
