The MTA says all service is running normally now, but, earlier, a switch problem at 59th Street/Columbus Circle caused delays with the A, B, C, and D lines. The trains were diverted, with the C going express between Canal and Columbus Circle and the B and D running local between West 4th and Columbus Circle... we even heard that the B and D were running on the northbound N/R line.
Because these delays affected the A, B, C and D, we're pretty sure that's why some other service was impacted One F train rider told us that his train waited 10-15 minutes at EACH stop during his commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan. This must have been fun for commuting students.

Another day, another absurd subway delay.
At first when I read that I thought it said, "The MTA says all service is running normally slow," which might actually be more accurate.
Commuting students? It wasn't fun for commuting anyone.
Took me one hour and 35 minutes to get to work from downtown Brooklyn to 53rd Street in Manhattan, 50 minutes of which were spent steps from the 53rd Street stop on the B train with not one single announcement explaining the reason for the delay. Way to go MTA!
yup, the F sure was impacted. seems to be a weekly occurrence these days.
Took me over an hour to get from West 4th street to 34th street, because (after hearing the announcement that the D & the B were delayed) i thought, "Let's take the E -- that doesn't go through 59th street." The E came into West 4th, went out, and then stopped dead well before 14th street for, oh, like an hour. No announcement of any kind. No chance of escape.
It is my considered opinion that the firing squad is too good for the staff of the MTA. Drawn and quartered is more appropriate. Let's face it, the subway basically just doesn't work anymore in this town, rain or shine.
the problems re not fixed as of noon - at least on the a line. just got into the city, after an hour and a half, the train i was on having stopped between each station as well.
The F train has been unacceptable in the past couple of weeks. I now am surprised to make it through a week without a significant delay. (and I only work part time 3 days a week!)
The subway system is the No. 1 disgrace of New York City.
Took C train Manhattan bound on Franklin stop in Brooklyn. A ride that takes 20 minutes, today took 1.5 hours!!!! And there is no "oficial" place that mantions such delays. At elast they could post the status od the service after the facts...but not even that can a user expect?
The B was running on the N/Q track at 14th St., but when it came, there was no real announcement made explaining what was going on. So a lot of people looked around angrily, and some eventually got on. Even on the train they just made the station announcements, no explanation of why a B was on this track.
If someone has some information to dispute that NYCs subway system is the worst in the world, I would like to hear it. I have lived here for 35 years and it has ALWAYS been a total disgrace. And they have ALWAYS been talking about needing money and moaning about how difficult it is to improve the system. They are liars. Somebody is benefiting from all that revenue and its not us.
The E was definitely impacted. I got on a train at Penn which grew more and more crowded as people kept piling on, only to be told by an announcement fifteen minutes later that it was recommended anyone who was able to make "alternate arrangements." I ended up swiping in again on the other side of Penn to take the 1 and play the transferring game.
And all I could think, the whole time, was it's not raining.
a great start to the week after a long weekend.
N/W line coming in from Queens was impacted. My normally 20 minute ride took almost 40 minutes. Nowhere near as bad as others had it, but unexpected nonetheless.
I'm wondering is the MTA the only mass transit org who provides riders with "late notices". I've heard they can provide proof of train delays to show your employer why you were late for work.
A GOOD PLAN: if users voice their experiences on a blog like this one. It should have a special space for not only expresing the lack of regularity but alsoa place to get information now that the oficial Subway website does not have such updates. There is no communication for the users. a blog might be pretty useful
I took the M in from Brooklyn and got out at Delancey to transfer only to discover an F stopped in the station. As I was heading back up to take the J/M/Z to Canal people were trying to push down the stairs to transfer not realizing we were streaming up because it was stuck.
I told the people waiting on top of the platform what was going on, but couldn't the MTA have announced this things before people got off their trains? It wasn't a problem that had just developed -- Conductors could have been informed.
I ended up on M > F > J/M > N > R to get in. My commute took 5 trains instead of 2 but only about 40 minutes somehow.
i can't believe they didn't offically mention the F! it was moving so slow that i could have run faster. when we got to 2nd avenue we ran onto the v. at bway/lafayette all the B riders ran onto our train because it wasn't moving but at west 4th the B pulled in so they all ran back onto the B but as soon as they got on, it was put out of service! what a disaster!! I got to work 45 minutes late & there was no evidence on the mta website about the F to show my boss. that sucks!
+oficially+
Delays around Columbus Circle? So what's new. Every single day the uptown A stops outside 59th street for a good five minutes. Why? Who knows. It also runs at 1/4 speed between 14th street and 34th street on a daily basis. What's the point of having an express train? Again, who knows.
The NYC subways run with the efficiency of a third world rail system.
@ 16,
When a train is delayed in Tokyo for five minutes they'll give everyone on the train a late notice for work, kind of like a doctor's note for the subway.
Took me 2 hours and 20 minutes to get from Kings H'Way in the BK to 181st in Washington Heights. Normally it takes an hour and a quarter during express service hours. Needless to say I missed my classes. Thanks MTA for helping me to make a great first impression!!
MTA: Getting worse every day.
