Last Night's Action: He's Back

• Mets 10 Reds 4: It was September 27th, 2006, when we last saw him. Something was obviously wrong and as he left the mound that night Mets’ fans everywhere felt their playoff dreams go down the drain.

  It took almost 49 weeks, but the Mets got their ace back Monday. Pedro returned to the mound and while the radar gun readings weren’t pretty, he got the job done. Five innings, two runs and four strikeouts later and Pedro showed that he will contribute in 2007. It’s still a long way until October, but Pedro probably has five more tune-ups before the real games start and rhe Mets and their fans have to feel better about their chances.

• Seattle 7 Yankees 1: You have to wonder why the Yankees let Roger Clemens pitch today. His foot was hurt, his elbow was hurt and after a few innings of Clemens, the Yankees’ playoff chances were hurt. Clemens stunk and he is off to get a MRI on his elbow. As for the team, apart from the sweep of Boston, they have lost eight of their last eleven.

• Brooklyn 5 Staten Island 0: Nicholas Carr pitched seven shutout innings and William Morgan capped things off with two more as the Cyclones took the fourth game of the series.

• Roddick advances, Blake doesn’t: Andy Roddick had an easy time of it as his opponent retired in the second set, sending him to the quarterfinals. James Blake had a 2-1 lead in sets, but lost the fourth 6-0 and then a tiebreaker in the fifth to Tommy Haas. Roger Federer actually lost a set, but came back and won his match in four, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4.
