Four Dead in Bronx SUV Accident

2007_08_BXaccident.jpg

A terrible accident in the Bronx: Police believe that an SUV on East Tremont was speeding around 4AM when it crashed into a telephone pole and flipped over. 1010WINS says the vehicle was "ripped apart" at Commonwealth Avenue. Three men were ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth passenger, a woman, died at Jacobi Hospital.

Over 34 million people are expected to be driving 50 miles or more during this Labor Day Weekend. The NY State Police say that it's "one of the state's most hazardous for highway travel, second only to Thanksgiving."

Natural selection at work - pure and simple. However, it's unfortunate when there's "collateral" damage...

I personally have always wondered why car companies are allowed to advertise cars the way they do. They depict them tearing around at breakneck speeds, whipping around corners, roaring thru the city - all with the tagline "Professional driver on closed course. Don't do this."

What other product is advertised on TV being used WRONGLY, in a way that will get innocent people KILLED!! Come on, the govt busts advertisers if they depict soup as thicker than it is, but depicting a car racing thru the city, that's fine!!?!

Asshole driving, simple -- no sympathy. Good riddance. Too bad there's more where they came from.

    4 in the morning?

sounds like it could be speeding and it could be driving drunk.

one minute you're with your buds chillin in da klub, the next you're part of a utility pole.

Riding the bus home last night, I seen these same people in cars all around the city. Driving with there girl or girls, Or a bunch of guys in one car. Of course there egos blown up from watching too many videos. Everyone thinks car are fun and games, luxury. Sad you cant realize whats really going on. Car companys are selling you false security and everyones buyin into it. I feel sorry for the nice humble people that die. But not for you young egotistical ones, the universe will serve you with a big slice of humble pie eventually. Lifes not all about hopin in you whip and driving around the city carelessly drinking. wasting gas. polluting and checkin the ladies.

    (sigh)

Yes "Spiritof76", obviously he would NEVER have driven a sedan that fast...

    2 Things:

For whatever reason the driver drove that fast, he car doesn't do that on it's own.

The report makes no mention of any cause foe the accident.

If anyone want's to blame "EEEEeeeeevil SUV's" or imply drunk driving, both are a tad premature.

My condolences to the family of the victems.

Gee, who's the dolt here? The articles say they don't know if alcohol contributed to the crash. So you immediately know it was a drunk driver, o omniscient one? I suspect your defensiveness indicates you own and drive an SUV yourself.

These things are not accidents, but crashes. The driver was speeding, so really, it's manslaughter.

jesus christ, give me a break. drunk drivers drive all sorts of cars, you dolt.

  • Spirit of 76

Others may say it's presumptive and judgmental, but I think this is yet another manifestation of the SUV mindset. Drivers of SUVs think they're in the biggest, baddest vehicles on the road and they're invincible.
