2007_08_arts_gi.jpgEXPLORE: Last call to visit the historic Governors Island this season! Free ferry rides depart hourly right next to the Staten Island Ferry terminal. Sitting 800 yards off the southern tip of Manhattan and about 400 from the Brooklyn waterfront, it isn't often you can get a view of the city and a house like that one to the right all from the same place.

THEATER: Controversial Brit dramatist Torben Betts has been favorably compared to illustrator Ralph Steadman, “had he turned his hand to animating one of the late, more explicitly political plays of Harold Pinter.” His incendiary play The Error of Their Ways sends the acclaimed American Living Room Festival out with a bang. Set amidst a bloody revolution, Betts imagines what happens when “a brutal political assassination robs a nation of its charismatic president and thrusts his beautiful, icy widow into the limelight. As the people demand blood and vengeance, she must choose between the prospect of immense power and her depraved love of the assassin.” – John Del Signore

THEATER: When friends come back from their frivolous little out-of-town escapades this Tuesday, wouldn’t it be rather satisfying to tell ‘em you spent part of your Labor Day weekend at the Theater watching “a love affair between a devout rodeo clown and a hell-raising rancher”? It’s a sordid affair that culminates in a trip to Graceland, “prophetic sex, and cows that rise from the dead.” Eat it, Hamptons. Riding the Bull was the Village Voice “audience favorite” award at this year’s Fringe Festival, it’s being briefly reprised with a handful of other hits as part of the Fringe Encore Series. Trustworthy theater addict Patrick Lee calls it “supremely intelligent and entertaining.”– John Del Signore

Sunday // 7pm // SoHo Playhouse [15 Vandam St] // Tickets cost $18.
