Last Weekend for Swimming at City Pools, Beaches

2007_08_carminestpool.jpgThis Labor Day weekend is not just the unofficial last weekend of summer - it's the official last weekend to enjoy the city's beaches and pools. After Monday, the 14 miles of beaches and 52 outdoor pools (including the Floating Pool - which will be heading to the Bronx for the summer of 2008) will be closed.

Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe says, "There’s no better way for New Yorkers to wrap up the summer than by visiting city beaches and pools. The 2007 season marks another banner year and sets the record for the most lifeguards at city beaches and pools ever...Have fun and swim safely this weekend. We look forward to seeing you at the beach next year!"

The Parks Department also wants swimmers to remember the following: Swim only when lifeguards are on duty, never swim alone or rely on flotation devices such as rafts, know your swimming capabilities, be aware of water conditions, and do not, under any circumstances, swim under the influence of alcohol.

I live so close to a pool, but never go because all the inner-city kids come down here and pee in it!

That pool has a really great Keith Haring Mural on one of the walls.
